I can see it. The loss of definition on the backside, the fact they couldn't replicate the metallic foil in the word Chris and the blurring of the red/pink on the fake. On the actual (real) label there is a clear definition between the colors.

Thanks, I can see some variation now. Not quite sure it's a smoking gun, but there are some differences for sure.

As someone who works with graphics, I can tell you with 98% certainty that the one on the right is faked, absent some other explanation. And it was faked by someone who isn't very good at it.

printer inconsistency, paper inconsistency, and ink inconsistency aside? Are the artifacts too telling?
I really don't have an eye for this stuff.

Hard to tell... but the questions remains who traded the bottle and where did he get it... any private detectives among us?

This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

    That's why I said 98%.

Printer/paper/ink inconsistencies could account for the variation in the red, but the artifacts around the edges of the letters are pretty damning. Any graphic printed from a vector won't have those.

You can read up on the difference between raster and vector graphics here if you're interested.

ok guys, without any doubt the right bottle is fake. If the pictures of the corks are real, and really belong to the bottles in question, we dont need to discuss about pixels and label colors. The JCN is bottled iin 2010 (I just checked the corks of the bottles I got at the source, they all say 2010 (happy I kept the corks of most of the bottles I drink:slight_smile: ), while the cork of the counterfeit bottle says 2011!! Holy crap....

Good stuff. Thanks DarthKostrizer and the OP for bringing this up. I'm not surprised this kind of thing is happening, but it's kind of sad that it is. JVR is probably super, super pissed off about this.

No need to talk about pixels anymore, see my post above. The cork of the counterfeit bottle says 2011, the real ones say 2010 (not visible in the picture though)

I think one thing we can all agree on is that the iphone takes shitty pictures.

Didn't someone mention that some of the JCN corks said 2011, and others 2010? Is that really definitive? They could have had corks sitting around from 2010 and tried to finish them off.

The redish back label looks like bleeding of the ink.

I think we are forgetting one important fact here: Jean Le Chocolatier's chocolates are amazing! and he is a super nice guy!!!

ohh and with a bottle in hand, yes there is a difference

About that I am not aware, but this can originate from the fact that counterfeit bottles entered the market already some time ago, making people believe they were drinking real JCN and therefore said the corks of JCN are from 2011...while actually they were drinking counterfeit JCN. All I can say is that I had a pretty big sample size from both shops for our beertasting group, and all corks say 2010.

That's scary to think that this counterfeiting could have been going on for months.... I am itching to get home and check my JCN bottle. I have a shitty picture of it on my phone, but can't tell anything from that.

Hmm, some reported 2011 here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmM4b0EyBTK4dExNRHZ3UWJPaFF5SExtalpEMmpXMWc#gid=12

Don, you also had (have) quite some, the corks of your bottles also say 2010?
