    Hello everyone,

I have to travel to Chaska Minnesota next week for a few days for a business trip. The majority of my days are filled with meetings but I will have some spare time the last day to pick up a few bottles before I have to head to the airport.

I have never been to this part of the country before. I always like to try and pick up bottles that can only be found in the place that I am traveling. So I have 2 questions...

    1. What are some bottles that I should pick up that are local to Minnesota and can only be found there?
    2. Does anyone have any recommendations for liquor stores in the Chaska area where I can find these bottles?

    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks!

Indeed Day Tripper and Steel Toe Size 7 are the first beers I would reach for.

For stores there is Vintage Chanhassen, Crossroads in Victoria, and the MGM in Chaska is actually pretty good. You can get Indeed at any of them and I highly recommend both the Day Tripper and Midnight Ryder. I go to the MGM to get Bad Weather.

Honestly, though, if you have an extra hour I recommend you make the trip to Four Firkins. Depending on where in Chaska you are it will be about an hour round trip but you'll get a much better selection. For example, you can get Bent Paddle and Steel Toe there -- you can't get either of them around Chaska.

Also, you might check out Enki Brewing in Victoria if you have time to sit down for a beer or three.

Edit: After rereading your post I think your best bet is to stop at Four Firkins on the way from Chaska back to the airport. Be sure to get some Olvalde Farm's Auroch's Horn while you're there.

I know people on the board are down on Surly for whatever reason lately, but it'd be worth picking up some Surly Furious and maybe something else of there's that tickles your fancy (any of the Benders are well-liked).

I'm never disappointed with Surly, but often am when I try the "new" beer on tap.

Depending on when you are in town. I work in Chaska and could meet up with you for an IP trade if you are interested.

I run a bar in Chaska. It's called Heartbreakers. The pizza is awesome and we have 26 taps, with most of them being local Minnesota brews. On tap right now are Summit Saga, Jack-O Traveler, Surly Fest, Flat Earth Cygnus X-1, Enki Auburn Kolsch, Newcastle Werewolf, Fulton Sweet Child of Vine, Stone Double Bastard, Avery Ellie's Brown, Harriet Brewing Divine Occulust, Bells Two Hearted, Big Wood Morningwood, Finnegan's Amber, Boulevard Lemon Ginger, Indeed Sweet Yamma Jamma, Bent Brewstillery Nordic Blonde, Sam Adams Octoberfest, Leinie's Honeyweiss, Summit EPA and Surly Furious. Lots to choose from but I recommend the Fulton, Surly Furious and Divine Occulust if you are an IPA fan.

Sorry I didn't notice that you've probably already come and gone.

Is that by the Rainbow and MGM?

You can get Steel Toe, Indeed, Bad Weather, Lake Monster, Lucid, Badger Hill, Blacklist, Boom Island, Olvalde, Lift Bridge, Surly, etc. at Haskell's in Chanhassen as another option. Some of these breweries are better than others and listed in no particular order. Forgive me if I forgot someone worth mentioning. Vintage in Chanhassen has 6-packs of Lazy Loon, maybe the smallest and newest package brewery in the state so not many people have had their beer.

Is that the one on 5 by the Goodwill?

DC is an awesome guy! OP, if you're on the fence about it, go for it!

PS, I'd go for Surly Furious, Schell's Black Forrest Cherry or North Country Brunette, or Indeed Day Tripper.

Heartbreakers has a great selection...last time I was there I had a surly bender cocoa nib which I love. I will have to try the pizza.

I am going to tag on to this thread, will be in Richfield next week for business. How pervasive is Abrasive? Any good stores on that area?

    Thanks!

It is all over the place a bountiful. Just look for canning date of 1/23 or later to avoid the carb issue from previous canning runs.

If you can send more home, I would check out Bent Paddle, Cold Press is good if you like coffee beers and their new Harnes Winter IPA is mighty tasty.

The best nearby liquor stores are Total Wine in Bloomington and South Lyndale Liquors in South Minneapolis. Richfield itself just has municipal liquor stores, but I assume even they will be carrying Abrasive.

Surly Pervasive would not be a bad name for a beer.

I'm trying to get my hands on some Bent Paddle Cold Press Black, Vanilla Cold Press Black and/or some Double Black. Any one have some that they are willing to trade. I posted in the trade forums, but didn't get any takers so I thought I would come to the source. Let me know if you are interested. I have access to most Chicago and Wisconsin offerings, as well as some standard TG stuff.

    Cheers
