Never thought such a thing would occur! So now I have to try one - been avoiding this local for too long, I guess. Lawson's Maple Tripple won it's 3rd medal at GABF - a silver this time. That was it for VT.

WELL deserved. I tried this one last year after a boston.com article crowned it their favorite in a blind tasting. Had it again this year, and it was delicious. One of those pumpkin BEER beers as opposed to pumpkin pie beers.

Yep, one of the few pumpkin beers that I actually enjoy aside from Smutty and Cape Ann. Light on all them spices and actually tastes like pumpkin.

Was surprised, but should not have been surprised at all. I did a pumpkin beer article so ended up doing a big blind tasting of pumpkin beers. Wolaver's was the unanimous winner in the mix (surprising to me was shipyard was near of the top of the pile). Smuttynose is another great one.

pumpkinhead...had a bright taste with a clear cinnamon flavor. It got two 2nd place votes. I've been a shipyard detractor for over a decade, so came into the tasting expecting them to come in at the bottom of the pile.

Would love to try this. Does this come in bottles? If so, anyone interested in trading for some?

I don't get it either. I have met so many people that have said Shipyard Pumpkinhead is their favourite pumpkin beer. Of course, these tend to be the same people who are drinking Blue Moons and Coronas the rest of the year.

Pumpkinhead can be unpleasant in large quantities but I can see it doing well in a tasting because you are only drinking a bit of it and its strong spice flavor would make it stand out if you are drinking a bunch of pumpkin beers. Wolavers, on the other hand, is one of the few pumpkin beers I could drink more than one of in a sitting.
