Ok, it's a ltd release first in the series bottled on 7/31? At best it's 9-10 weeks old just hitting the area. For a DIPA? It's a bit old would have liked this in the first week in Aug. it's why HDR is do attractive it's really good and ultra fresh, and why I lately pass on outside IPAs.

At like 10%+ IIRC it should be fine. Honestly i think it will be better with age. Saving two bottles to do a planets tasting when they are all out.

I think it just hit NY, too; a store I shop at just posted it to their blog page. If I come across it I'll definitely give it a go, but probably won't go out of my way for it.

Malty , I drain poured it, IPAs even at 10% don't get better with age. Unless you like BW, but it's not a BW.

I've seen some secondary drops of mars around west mi lately. Not sure if this is old stock being released or what but supplies had pretty much run dry and now it's popping up again. Haven't really felt the need to check dates as I've had my share plus i put some away. Sorry you didn't get any fresh.

I had it at just under a month and had another one last weekend. The first one was pretty good I thought and the one I had last weekend was much more malty tasting but it wasn't bad, just malty. If you haven't had it already I would still say try to get a single to give it a shot, even if you don't like it you have a cool bottle that probably wont come out again.

Yeah never heard of aging an IPA, I thought the Mars was OK. It was really over priced and 16.00 a 6 pack, they might want to switch to a 4 pack. I was able to compare the oracle and Mars at the same time as both are DIPA's. Hands down the oracle was the winner in my book, but again at 18.00 a six pack just didn't think it was worth it.

Agreed. This just hit PA 2 weeks ago and it was not good. No Hops, big malt bomb. At first I thought it the beer was just poor but then realized it was bottled over 2 months ago. That is disappointing.

I had one fairly fresh and still found it to be a pretty massive malt bomb.

I had one fresh and it was great, but can't see it aging well. It had a TON of late-addition hops in it, which have probably mostly faded already.

DFH 120 minute ages great, so aging IPAs certainly isn't unprecedented.

On another note, Mars is popping up around here again as well, following the initial release a few weeks ago that came and went within a matter of minutes.

It's okay if you don't like this beer. I tried it and felt the ABV was too high for the flavor provided.

there is always an exception to the rule, and dogfish is known for aging beer. I have a few 120's one from 2010, 2013 and 2014.

I was only able to get one bottle of Mars and one of Oracle about two months ago in DC and I thought the Oracle had a horrible alcohol aftertaste but found the Mars to be a perfect blend of sweetness and strength. Wish more than one case had been available to the store so I could have had more.

They only had one case at Hop City in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend, but were kind enough to allocate 2 bottles per customer. Damn good stuff. Strong and well balanced. There IS life on Mars!
