I don't do beers for breakfast, but for weekends, days that I'm not working, or days that I'm working from home, a beer with lunch is always an option. If I do so, it's usually late in the evening when I drink my next.

It's not so much the beer that makes me unproductive in the morning, it's all that whiskey

I don't like bloody Mary's or mimosas, so at a brunch or a late breakfast when people order "breakfast" drinks I will ask for a beer. People tend to frown on it, but I don't see it as a problem.

I'm a Drunk, but the only time I drink a beer in the morning is after I've done some snow shoveling. It's usually something Belgian and it's above 10% ABV.

I don't necessarily follow how "a couple of Rockstars/Monsters" is better for you than a beer. Sure, if you wake up feeling like you "need" a beer, that's a problem. You could say the same thing about morning smokes, ibuprofen, coffee, energy drinks, or anything else though.

I rarely drink beer early in the day. Usually I do it late enough that I know I'm not going to do anything else important in the day and knowing full well I'm probably going to be drinking until I go to sleep.

The cases where I do drink beer in the morning are when I have a huge non-alcohol related event in the afternoon or evening, and have time to kill but not so much time that I could actually do something constructive with it. Then I'll maybe have a lower alcohol beer.

I only drink in the morning a few times a year. Always on christmas morning, though. Usually a RIS, Winter Warmer, or Belgian Dark of some kind.

I also tend to drink my beer in the afternoon or evening, but I will make exceptions. Christmas is a good one, as @tmm313 just said. A morning line release/party is another good occasion. This weekend we're having some friends over for a beer brunch with four different courses and four different beers...beermosa with IPA, pumpkin ale, FW Stickee Monkee quad, and NG Strawberry Rhubarb. That will probably make the rest of the day pretty low-key, but sometimes that's what Saturdays are for!

After college, the only time I'll ever have a beer before noon is pretty much after running a race...which pretty much means Mich Ultra. I have up morning drinking around 20 yeard old.

Really so you have never felt the need to drink caffeine to wake up a little bit? And again, I never said it was better than drinking beers in the morning. I just said I need to wake up before thinking about drinking beers.

Besides most people have 9-5 jobs. Who the hell has a beer before going into the office? If you think drinking a sugar free energy drink is worse than pounding a beer before going to work then I don't know what to say.

Weekends, on vacation, drinking a beer before noon, who cares.

When I was in college a bar near campus had a Kegs and Eggs breakfast and beer deal, that was always good. Nowadays, the only time I drink beer in the morning is at sporting event tailgates, golfing, ice fishing, that sort of thing.

There are many times when a drink in the morning is perfectly reasonable/mandatory. They include:
    Brunch
    Brew day
West Coast football team playing on East Coast (thus game starts at 10am here)
Tailgating before a football game (West Coast games start at 1pm)

For those claiming this is in some way immoral or inappropriate, relax. As others mentioned, it's only an issue if you "need" to have a beer, especially on a weekday with a full day of work ahead. That, I have never done.

Your beer brunch idea sounds amazing! I will definitely make one of these happen soon.

Guess you don't fish or tailgate... That's extremely unfortunate.

I knew this thread would be full of BA's who think drinking beer is a problem.

I don't do any fishing anymore so now I only drink before noon when I'm watching English soccer matches on TV (which, owing to the time difference, begin broadcasting in the morning here), and shucks, that's just every weekend during the footie season, which only lasts about 3/4 of the year.

I did not mean to imply that pounding a beer before work was a good idea, because it is not. Personally, I just don't see energy drinks, sugar free or not, as a healthier alternative to having a beer (as in, one beer) in the morning if the occasion permits. Most everyone has vices, so I don't think anyone can look down on one vice simply because it is different from their own.

Oddly enough, I never have caffeine (heart problem), but I do "need" food to perk up in the morning.

Lots of judgement here. I say, as long as one does not go overboard and enjoys in moderation, let them drink a beer at whatever time of day they damn well please. What about those who work night shifts? I've only had morning beers a few times - coffee/oatmeal stouts, what have you - I gotta say, on a Saturday with nothing else planned, it really hit the spot!

I might have one beer before noon. Like a stout or something. Only on the weekends. And only when the wife is gone. :grinning:

Otherwise if I go camping or on a fishing trip to my buddies cabin we start popping beers open at 9am on the dot.

Peche Mortel. Nothing says "Hello and goodbye hangover" like that sweet nectar.
