I used to have beer in the "morning" when I worked nights about 18 years ago. I'd slam a six-pack of 16 ounces Buds, then sleep but since then I haven't had a beer before 2 p.m.
But I think a morning beer would definitely affect my ability to get things done.

When I post a morning photo on WBAYDN, it means I'm not working that day. My normal work schedule is wake up at 2:30 a.m. and be to work at 4 a.m. So I only do weekend morning drinking, or vacation morning drinking. But to answer your question, yes, once I have a morning beer, all bets are off. It means I'll end up crashing on the sofa in my basement by saturday evening. I call it "falling asleep" but my wife calls it passing out. Heh, language! On Sunday, I can have a few and generally leave it at that.

The only time I've had beer for breakfast was last years darkness day. I also had it the 12 hours preceding breakfast and 6 hours after breakfast.

    Yea, it's ridiculous.
I was on a camping trip recently with my wife & her parents.
Her Dad likes to smoke pot and was bragging in the early morning that he'd blazed one up and was high.
So I was like (to my wife) "Okay, if he's having a joint, I'm surely allowed a beer"
    No -- I wasn't.
    "You can't drink now!"

So what's the big deal? We can smoke pot at 9am but not have a beer?

Beer is a complex and nutritious food. Perfect breakfast if you ask me.

My beer of choice after a morning of snow blowing/shoveling is Bourbon County.

Bourbon County Brand Stout or the Barley Wine. You know those brews are like Pringles, once you pop, you can't stop!

Amen brother. You hit it right on the head. I work hard all week and usually won't drink at all. Come weekend time, I feel I have to make up for lost time. If I'm up, so is the bottom of my glass.

I really like having a nice beer in the morning on a sunday. I look forward to it. I will have almost any style but I like the darker sweeter beers with a high abv for morning beers. Tripels, dopplebocks, blegians andstouts. If I remember right it was @Bitterbill who was my first morning beer buddy and what a nice time it is. Quiet, peaceful, lovely time and then there's the "buzz." (Go ahead and order me one a 'dem scarlet letters then)

D'oh! Haha. Actually I just finished a 5k so I did in fact enjoy a cool and crisp Michelob Ultra on a beautiful and sunny 45 degree morning here in Chicago

The pussification of America has never been more evident with the responses people are putting on this thread. If drinking a beer in the morning hurts your belly or makes you tired then drink your OJ and let us enjoy our morning brews.

If I'm in a situation where I have the opportunity to drink a beer in the morning I would be looking for a low abv tasty roasty brew. I had a Bayou Teche Black Ale with Coffee as a morning brew a few months back. It was great! I didn't even have to go to AA!!

What a self-riteous and ignorant post. You're not alone though, I see lots of mixed sentiments on morning beers here. I've had a beer with breakfast many times. Its usually just one or two on days off or weekends and its not all the time. I have turned to the hair of the dog a few times for having too much fun the evening before though, but its been a while since I've done so. This is America and anyone can have a beer whenever the hell they want. Although its obvious drinking is more common in the afternoon and evening, theres over 300 million people in this country, some are going to want beer for breakfast.

That being said, I'd rather have a good coffee stout than anything else in the AM.

The OP asked about the mindset of one who is indulging in an AM beer…

"This is a fresh and delicious DIPA -- Fuck yeah!!" was my mindset in this particular case.

    And Buzz agrees.

Pic taken at 0945. Later than usual for my Saturday morning…

...but all you fine, upstanding citizens on this thread made me feel guilty.

I might have to do some shit later in the day, but a morning beer is sometimes it until late afternoon/early evening anyway(depends), so it doesn't necessarily shut down my day; not only do I still have most of the day ahead of me, but I also have the "massive nap" option at my disposal, which can be like packing two days into one (*second start after the nap*) :sunglasses:

But by design, I don't plan on being productive when I'm drinking

Also, I don't literally have a "beer for breakfast" - I'll have a beer during the hours many would consider "breakfast-time" but I'm a coffee guy before anything else - and a food guy too - so if I'm drinking a beer at 8 am ( :grimacing:! ) I was probably up around 5-6, had coffee and breakfast, and did whatever "morning routine"-kinda crap I had to do.
    Then my mindset is...

    *pops cap*

Today's forecast: a mix of drinking with a low chance of responsibility, and the possibility of an afternoon nap.

Seems like the same people saying they drink 2 beers a week decided to post and say, "I would never drink a beer in the morning...because my wife would scold me".

Anyway, played golf early last Sunday and had some stone coffee milk stouts. Good beer, low ABV.

Only on a weekend and usually specifically for a review. One and done. Sometimes the taste buds are just more awake in the morning than later in the day.

I kinda doubt "most people" have 9-5 jobs in an office.

And I think by "better for you", it is meant to mean health-wise. Beer, (in moderation) has less negative health effects than energy drinks, sugar free or not.
