My wife and I were house sitting for her parents last weekend. I went looking for a bottle of whiskey I had left over there a few months prior and stumbled upon this bottle of Lucifer in the back of their liquor cabinet. Her dad is a Coors-Light-only type of guy, and her mom doesnt drink, so I know its been in there a while. In doing a bit of research, I found out that Riva S. A. started brewing this beer somewhere around 1980, and did so until 2008-2009 when Het Anker took over the brand. My bottle says it was brewed and bottled by Riva, so I am assuming it is (at least) pre 2008-2009. I emailed the brewery but have yet to hear back.
There are a few tick marks in the right hand side of the label that I think have to do with the bottled on date.
I emailed the brewery but have yet to hear back. Just wondering if anyone can help me figure out this mystery.

Unfortunately Riva went out of business in 2008, so I doubt you will get any info from them. I can ask my boss, but I doubt anyone would know if/what those notches might represent.

is there any coding on the glass of the bottle? there is an outside chance you might be able to roughly date it that way.

lol probably early 2000's. I remember buying this way back when and being disappointed by it. Of course I was comparing it to Chimay. I'm sure it's drinkable but don't expect much either way, fresh or aged.

Its a different beer style to any of the Chimay beers, so not really a good comparison. Fresh I love this beer (its not really a style meant for much aging). Its also brewed by a different brewer now, hence the issue for the OP.
