Westvleteren dubbel, green cap: old and spoiled. The red cap, however, was delicious.

    This thread is stupid.

Oh that I could un-see this. I am destroyed. Oh that there were time machines & I could go back to just before you opened that tragically ill fated & innocent bottle of sublime bliss. <crying softly>

    I had a vertical at the woodshop 9, 03 to 13
I thought 09 (white wax) was perfect. After 09 the sweetness really fell off

A friend of mine has a bottle of SA Triple Bock still and we're planning on giving it a try pretty soon. I'm nervous but looking forward to it with a kind of morbid curiosity.

For what it's worth, I actually enjoyed the bottle I had. I think if you like vintage World Wide Stout you might like it. I got a lot of sherry/port notes from it that reminded me a lot of the 2007 WWS I drank recently. It definitely is dependent on what conditions it experienced throughout its very long life, though. It's a fun experiment to say the least. I actually got one that didn't have a really crumbly cork, too.

Thanks, that gives me a little more optimism. I haven't had a vintage WWS but I loved what I've had from the first sip.

I'd say its better than an average, even REALLY good, but I don't see it anywhere near PTE or HT. Shoot I'd rather drink hop drop anyway.

I hope you're not confusing New Glarus's portfolio. The only genuine sours from New Glarus are Bourbon Barrel Kriek, Very Sour Blackberry, Berliner Weiss, Wild Sour (R&D Sour), Enigma (R&D Sour Brown), Wild Peach, Cran-Bic, Oud Bruin, and Old English Porter.

Beers like Raspberry Tart, Serendipity, Belgian Red, Strawberry Rhubarb, and Apple Ale are not sours, nor are they intended to be; they are fruit beers. There is a distinct difference.

But ZD is a pale ale. I think it should be compared to others in its category, not to DIPA's like PtE and Heady.

Very true. I was doing some generalization there, but I agree with you.

    By the way @

Founders Breakfast stout was good, but nowhere near the amount of perfect 5s it has recieved on here.

Its not really a whale, but definitely not available in stores here in Oregon

Not a whale but Bourbon County Barleywine was a pile of coca cola shit. No depth. No complexity. No duality or hidden notes. Just a shining example of mindless innovation via barrel aging
