Sounds like a cranberry coming. Good to see that people seem to enjoy the Oatmeal BB

I have to admit, I had my doubts that these would score, but of the first three the only one that I thought was less than excellent was the Berliner. Looking forward to the next efforts.

I did not get the Trip but I to was expecting more from the Berliner. I actually thought that this was going to be the best of the lot but this was a miss for me in that I did not get a ton of the raz and I thought it poured nearly still after the head immediately receded. It was below average to average but the Oatmeal Milk stout is good from what I have heard. I have not tried that one yet as my bottles are still sitting there.

I think the cranberry sounds interesting enough to warrant a try.

agreed witht he above, I found the base beer of the berliner when it was release lacked in tartness and complexity and the BA version followed. I hope the step up their game with the cranberry release.

How did these bottles get released the first go round? Was it brewery only or did they see some distribution?

Released at brewery although the # of bottles released was about a third of total bottle run. After the release, they did say that some accounts might receive some bottles but never heard for sure that it happened. I think the cranberry sour looks interesting since you don't see a lot of cranberry sour beers.

I actually found the berliner at my store, but very limited and out the door fast (my store had no idea how they ended up with any).

RiverHorse had a very vague limit, but people were taking a case of each from what I found out on my drive to the brewery that day (luckily friends told me they already sold out before I made the entire trek). They did hold bottles to do a limited distro, from what I heard it was near the brewery/Princeton area.

I like what they're doing, and the cranberry sour sounds awesome. I just hope there's a quasi-limit this time around.

I am not disagreeing with you but I think I was about 4th or 5th in line. When people talk about people taking a case out the door, RH did box stuff up in cases so that in some cases people might have had a case walk out the door but it was not a case of any beer by itself. For the first 10 people or so in line, I pretty much saw what they got and I think the most that anyone bought that I saw was 4 of any particular style. I am not disagreeing with what you said, I just can only say what I saw the front of the line. I took a case out of there - eight bottles in total and some glassware. But again, I am saying that what you indicate above is not true.

I am sure RH wants to avoid some of the bitching that took place the first time around. I would expect some limit for sure.

I think the cranberry beer sounds very good and will plan to make it out there for sure.

That makes me feel better. The non-limit/people can as much as they want to help friends, just be cool limit was weird. However, good to hear less walked out with case(s) instead of the whole pallet method. Haha.

There very well might have been people taking a case of a particular beer out, all I can say is that for the first 8-10 people in line, I do not believe that was the result. More people seemed to be buying sets since you got a discount for buying the set. It might have happened though that someone in that line took out say a whole case of the Oatmeal or Berliner. It might have happened. But when people saw others taking cases out, they might have jumped to a conclusion there.

I don't understand why every place does not do what Forest and Main do. They say the limits with the additional kicker that they might reserve the right to adjust depending on line size before they start selling. I think this means that they are attempting to ensure that everyone gets something. Or put a limit of say 2 per person and you can get back in line.

The issue of no limits at the release was compounded by the fact that the amount of bottles for sale were less than the amount that went into distribution. I'm hoping that if they do brewery-only next time with similar bottle totals, they could do 2 bottles per and at least last past lunch.

I thought the berliner was the best thing they've ever done.

The Berliner was the only one I found in distro. And it was terrible. No depth or tartness. Not worth the price of admission whatsoever. If the cranberry is anything like this then it won't be worth seeking out.

I heard the BA Milk Stout was decent though. But nothing outstanding.

All 3 hit distro, I bought the BA triple in NYC at PH Beer Works, and a friend got 1 bottle of the BA Oatmeal at Wine Works in Cherry Hill.

The BA Tripel Horse was a little better than I expected. With that being noted, this is certainly the time for a brewery who has not yet tried their hand at barrel aging to give it a go. The general popularity in craft beer and "limited releases" makes it much easier for any brewery to have success in selling these high ticket items.
