$12 for a 10 oz pour of BCBS seems high

It can be a bit pricey otherwise, but it can be tough to find a seat at the bar for happy hour. You can only get happy hour pricing at the bar. I generally like the beer, but not a big fan of the atmosphere at big rock.

Unless I looked up the wrong Big Rock I can't go there due to lack of a passport :stuck_out_tongue:

You definitely looked up the wrong Big Rock. It's in Birmingham, MI.

Ah, you only have one weekend? Then let me make this simple:

On your drive up, hit Bell's for lunch. If you're staying in downtown Detroit, check into your hotel/wherever and then head to Slow's for dinner. On Saturday, do a driving tour and hit Kuhnhenn, Dragonsmead, and a couple bottleshops mentioned here. If you want to get back to the city for dinner, check out Michael Symon's Roast Detroit (never been, but I've heard that have great food and always a nice beer selection). On your way out on Sunday, hit Dark Horse for lunch (just off 94 at the junction with 69) and be on your way home.

I agree that you should hit everything on this list. Depending on what time you are getting to Detroit on Friday I might hit Roast then for dinner at the bar. They have a great happy hour until 6:30, Slows will be packed either night. I would also add in one more quick stop at Greenbush either on your way in our out of town.

And when the wait for Slow's is too long, go across the street to the mercury burger bar.

It is good to have other options when going to slow's.

That place sounds sweet, will likely hit it up Saturday for lunch

+1 to Roast, especially if you can get a seat at the bar. Great happy hour. It'll be packed, but it's worth it.

I agree with hitting up Roast for happy hour on Friday night instead of Slow's. The menu is small but everything on it is great, they always have a few good selections on tap and won't have the crazy wait time like Slow's either.

It's definitely not the most laid back of happy hours but being able to get a pour of their BB RIS for $2 is nice.

Yeah, I'm thinking you might be better off doing the other place Friday night for dinner, and then Slow's on Saturday for lunch. I've never had more than a 45 minute wait there, but I've also never been at peak hours. Or, as someone else mentioned, you could do Michael Symon's for dinner Friday, then Slow's for lunch on Saturday.

You're in Chicago, right? It's like 4 hours to Detroit. Do what you can now and find a reason to come back again and hit what you missed in round 1. We'd love to have ya!

There's a reason why Michigan is one of the best beer states in the country

One of my best high school friends just got a job in Detroit, that's why I'm heading out there this time. He's not super into craft beer though so I'm worried I'll only be able to hit 1 or 2 of these stops per visit. Luckily I'll "always" (barring another server crash) have this thread to come back to

Unfortunately, BB RIS has never been on tap when I was there.
