In the context you posted it is Single Malt and Single Hop.

Perhaps Smash IPA is just the name of their beer?

Thanks, appreciate it. Ill talk with them more later, at least wanted to get a feel for what it was before I went. 1300 beers later and still feel like a n00b sometimes.

    Cheers!

Did you like bittering with Simcoe? I am doing a simcoe smash for my next BIAB. I can decide on Marris Otter or Golden Promise. I have heard bad things about bittering with Simcoe/Citra (cat pee). Thoughts?

Could try FWH or small/no 60 minute addition with copious late hops?

I don't care for citra due to the cattiness. Simcoe on the other hand is wonderful. I don't get the catiness from it at all. Golden Promise or Vienna is next for me.

I just finished my first great APA with Simcoe throughout. I bittered with it and used it throughout the bill. I also used some Amarillo as flavor and as a dry hop. It was amazing. I wonder if the cat pee is masked with a biscuity malt like MO?

I did an all Citra brew with 1oz additions at FWH, 15, 5, 0, and 2oz in dryhop and I got absolutely zero cat pee.

I would assume they are referring to cat pee aroma, not flavor per se.

I have a cat, and it is a distinct smell. I will point out that as VikeMan said, I made no reference to taste. I should also point out that some of the hops in the bag did have a bit of a cat pee aroma to them, which thankfully did not transfer to the beer.

It tastes like oxidized citras (or hop of choice)...seriously, if you have to ask, you have never tasted a "catty" beer

    More aroma than taste thankfully

Yup. I didn't get it either until I experienced it. Lots of ammonia aroma. Btw- My dogs loves to eat cat poo on occasion and I am the one who ends up checking if we think she has or not. Very well versed in cat pee/poo aroma.

I got that comment from 3 of 4 people on a club large batch beer that was ~30 IBUs, plain grain bill, US-05 and all I added to my 5 gallons was 1 oz citra. I never got it, but half the people said "Cat pee". I told them they were nuts, and happily drank more of it
