Beer Cocktails

I like adding a shot of W.L. Weller 12 year old to quads and RIS, but I like adding a shot of it to a good sarsaparilla better, and adding a shot of it to my Sunday morning cup of coffee is the best!

 

I do enjoy beer with mead. I'm still experimenting which beer works "best" with mead and in which quantities. (although I'm ruling out the really hoppy beers because I think the flavors would conflict too much)

So far I've tried a few generic supermarket beers, a Heather Ale and Witbier. The Heather Ale has worked really good so far.

 

I normally consider the practice of beer cocktails heresy, but after much reflection and a bit of experimentation I have concluded that the only acceptable way to consume those Lindemans fruit "lambics" is by mixing them with something else. Preferably the raspberry mixed with a shot of vodka.

 

There was a bar I used to go to in Salisbury, MD that served Evolution's ESB with a shot of Jack in it. They call it a bitter bastard. Really good stuff

 

My wife is from South Dakota and drinks a regional beer cocktail called a "Red Beer". It is a mixture of a generic American Pilsner, V8 (or tomato juice) and olives with some of their brine. I informed her that a red beer is typically an Irish red however she insists that hers is the real "Red Beer". I got to thinking what other beer cocktails may be out there. Anyone know of some good ones?

1 can Old Milwaukee
2 oz. Skol vodka

 

I always like beer-itas quite a bit. I don't have a recipe for you, but basically pick any AAL and throw it in a blender with tequila, margarita mix (frozen limeade if you're feeling ghetto fabulous), a splash of orange liqueur of your choice (Grand Marnier/Cointreau/triple sec), and ice. The beer adds a nice dimension to an ordinary margarita.

 

Don't try Southern Tier Creme Brulee and Southern Tier Warlock. Waste of a perfectly good bottle of Creme Brulee.

The various fruit "lambics" that Lindemans makes (the hyper-sweet non-sour ones) pretty much have no use beyond cocktails. Framboise with a shot of vodka is dangerously well-hidden. I've also tried it with Cassis, which doesn't work quite as well.

 

a black and tan (pale ale or lager and stout or porter) is about as exciting as my beer cocktails go !!!!!!

 

I've made an Old Fashioned with a little bit of pumpkin ale mixed in. Worked pretty well.

 

Isn't mixing anything with beer against the pure food and drug act.

 

I recently made a schlafly pumpkin cocktail. I made a simple syrup out of the beer, sugar, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and all spice. The recipe goes as follows
1oz of GM
1 oz of whipped cream vodka
Three dashes of pumpkin simple syrup
One dash of fresh lemon juice
Shaken and strained over ice into shaker pint, and topped off with schlafly pumpkin on draft
Garnished with an orange zest and cinnamon stick

I was wondering if anyone else enjoyed an occasional beer cocktail. The only one I will drink is westbrook gose with a shot of tequila with a splash of orange juice and a squeeze of Lime. I am just wondering if there are any other cocktails worth trying. I know it sounds odd but it is extremely delicious.

 

Dublin Iced Coffee:

• 2 oz. strong cold-brew coffee
• 2 oz. stout (Guinness)
• 1½ oz. Irish whiskey
• ¾ oz. simple syrup
• 1/2 ounce heavy cream

 

Michelada.
It's a Bloody Mary- exchange the alcohol for beer. Amazing! A great way to make use of a mediocre beer on a Sunday morning.

 

We called those Beery Marys back in high school. Good times. haha.

The only time Ill mix beer and liquor in the same glass now is once in a while Ill add a splash of whatever bourbon I have to a stout or porter. Especially if its a stout or porter I've never tried, and just bought a 6 pack of, and find that Im not very fond of the beer by itself. Sometimes the bourbon helps.

 

Stouts seem to be good for cocktails. I like to drop a shot or two of Grand Traverse Cherry Vodka in a Chocolate Stout every now and again.

 

Jameson/JD Honey Whiskey...with any fine stout (stronger/darker the better)

but sipping a truly fine Scotch and following it with a beauty like Ol raspy or Narwhal.....sweet bliss

I get these at a Mexican grocery store. Pour some Pacifico in there and you're golden.
