Damn beertunes. Sounds like your adventure is the result of a lot of good beer karma that you've put out into the world. Cheers.

Thank you. But, I'm certain that I am their penance for past misdeeds! :grimacing: Seriously, I have been very fortunate to have met a lot of people in this industry, from keg-washers, to bartenders, to brewers, to sales reps, to owners, to everything, and the percentage of assholes is insanely tiny. Genuinely, nice people seem drawn to this business/hobby/lifestyle, and it's humbling to see the responses. And, all y'all here on NBS are part of that. There ain't a one of ya I wouldn't buy a couple pints for if ya came through my town. Cheers all!

    Hey NBSers,

Today was beautiful and warm in Central Oregon, but I was inside working for most of it (cue sad trombone). I got to spend the early part of the day with my daughter on her birthday (how is she 14 already!?), though, so it's still a good day.

I had some new beers earlier in the week worth mentioning: on Wednesday a local bottleshop/beer bar hosted 5 beers made as part of the Beers Made By Walking project. Brewers take a hike with a BMBW guide and whoever wants to join, identifying all the edible/brewable plant life along the way. The Brewers then make beers using ingredients identified along the hike. My favorites of the evening were Deschutes' Botanic Ale with rye, sagebrush, rose, and meadowsweet, and Seven Brides' Pseudo Tsuga IPA with Douglas Fir Needles, but there wasn't a dud in the bunch. Other adjuncts used: Rose hips, elderberries, chokecherry, mint, juniper tips, juniper berries, Indian Rice grass, wheatgrass, and fescue.

But I digress. Today's new beer is The Dapper Skeleton by Burnside Brewing of Portland, OR.

This pumpkin beer takes a welcome detour from the pumpkin pie spices, opting instead for a more savory blend and mild chile peppers to augment the pumpkin/squash flavor. The pepperiness is more flavor than heat, and not vegetal at all, very well done. Burnside has another beer called Sweet Heat which is a totally different execution of brewing with peppers, and I appreciate their finesse in this beer. I'm not a huge pumpkin beer fan, but this is amongst my favorites of the style. 4/5

Well... for all the wrong that a day can bring, getting back in touch with connection to the world can help heal many ills. Gotta love hot rocks in a small dark space.
Anyway. Props to the Rams for playing well and putting themselves in a position to be ahead at the end of the game, but that lack of review was some ol' bullshit. D'ah well, at least the dream job came through. On the day before my birthday nonetheless. Sweet.
Evo IPA is another local NW IPA. It doesn't seem to be as well embraced as some others, especially of the local set, but I personally feel that it is underappreciated. Nose bursting with juicy citrus and fruits as soon as I pop the cap, coatingly bitter throughout, I enjoy it thoroughly.

Thanks. Actually, it's getting better and better. Lots of great brews distributed here in the eastern part of the state, an awesome brewpub in Brookings, some excellent beer bars and several new breweries popping up in the area.
