i think it's funny when people from San Diego put down LA because people in LA never have any attitude about people from San Diego. why? because people in LA don't give any thought to San Diego. you ask someone from LA what they think of San Diego they'll probably say, "it's nice.". ask someone from San Diego about LA and it's always "I hate LA" etc.. the rivalry only goes one way, which is kind of sad.

i like San Diego, but let's be honest, aside from craft beer, it doesn't have that much going on. which is why i feel like the superiority attitude is humorous. it's one thing to insult LA if when you live in New York or Paris or London... actual real cities with vibrant cultures. San Diego?

as for the douchebag comment, i find that ironic since you guys (San Diego) have basically cultivated the modern day douchebag look. backwards baseball caps, sunglasses on the back of heads, jacked up trucks.. San Diego is the only place that didn't get the memo that soul patches went out in the mid-90's

nonetheless, despite the attitude from you guys, i like San Diego. great breweries, great weather, good burritos.

    cheers!

Go to Hermosillo Club and get a growler of Highland Park Brewery's latest IPA, 1UP, it's fucking amazing.

Whoa.....only good burritos? I take offense to that!

And for clarity, my hatred of LA is because of the Dodger fans that come down to the games. Aside from that, I got nothing against LA (except traffic, but who enjoys traffic anywhere?).

Oh and The Pantry....holy crap that place was amazing. That breakfast right before a concert really hit the spot.

I've met many tourists who thought Anaheim was a suburb of the City of LA.

If you go to Mohawk Bend, they have RR Row 2 Hill 56 as well as Modern Times Blazing World on tap.

LA people are defensive, and many are unable to recognize sarcastic memes. Who exactly is being "superior"?

The "douchebag" comment is an Alpine-fueled joke. Some Alpine regular got all butthurt when Pat got mad and changed Alpine's Expo release policy (bottles only, no growlers), and went on a rant about "LA douchebags that send up mules with growlers". A lot of people here found it pretty funny, so they reuse it. In reality, I don't think people in San Diego give much thought to LA or anywhere else - beer tourists are beer tourists.

As far as your San Diego stereotype (which as far as I can tell does not apply to anybody I've ever met at a brewery or bar around here), the only place I've noticed a pronounced number of people fitting that was Pacific Beach. If you chose to do your partying around there, then you are a douchebag for real. LOL

fair enough. i am admittedly defensive about it, and guess didn't get your reference. people do make lots of negative comments about LA though and it does get old. LA is one of the few places where it's seemingly socially acceptable to rail on it. whenever i travel and meet people i'm amazed and offended when people think it's ok to tell me to my face that they despise LA. that would be like me going into your house and telling you how much of a shit hole i thought your place was. but, maybe i'm overly sensitive.

i do think it's hilarious sometimes when i meet people traveling and they ask where i'm from i say LA. they tell me they hate it. then i ask where they're from and it's some middle-of-nowhere bunghole.

it's all about perspective i guess

Why do these threads always end up like this?

Just look at the Bourbon County thread as an example. There's like 30 posts. The first three are talking about Bourbon County and the next 27 are talking about whether or not LA sucks.

Except that didn't happen here. There was a tangent on "OC is not LA", and I just through out the "LA Douchebag" meme. I don't think anybody said it sucks in this thread.

I gotta chime in here. Lived in Orange County most of my life and spent very little time in LA. If you aren't from here you have no idea of how large a geographic area it contains and how long it takes to get from one side to the other especially in traffic. Just because the Angles are called the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim or whatever it is they are calling themselves these days does not mean they play in LA. The San Fransisco 49ers play an hour from San Francisco these days and the New York Jets and New York Giant play in New Jersey.........location and the amount of time one has to hunt matters.

Then definitely do yourself a favor and go to the Hermosillo as I mentioned in my other post.
Sports fans that act stupid are stupid. Has nothing to do with what beer one likes or what city one is from.

Hit a nice big bottle shop like Ramirez and a nearby Whole Foods and you should be able to get a pretty good cross-section of west coast stuff. Not sure what's not available in NY, but you should be able to find Lagunitas, Firestone Walker, Coronado, Bottle Logic, Lost Abbey, Port Brewing, Pizza Port, Almanac and if you're lucky Russian River and Alpine. Cascade and Deschutes also make it here, which you possibly are a little more rare in NY. You probably already get Stone and Bruery but selection here will be better.

Finally if you do hit a brewery, I really liked Golden Road, but if you can drive a little further right now is a great time to go to the Bruery which is not in LA (but is drivable). They have two variants of So Happens It's Tuesday on tap (both excellent) as well as some other seasonal stuff available to the public. Also, the bottle shop outside the Bruery (Mr. K's) probably has all the west coast stuff you want.
