I may be in Portland this Friday for a very fast business meeting. Literally, my business is going to take about 15 minutes but I must do it in person. I then have the rest of the day free.

So, question. What is the most I can do in Portland in one day?? I will have a car and want a realistic "route" or things to do. I'm going to confess that I "taste," I don't "drink" at most places and I can usually do a "tasting visit" rather quickly, just for your general information. (Of course, if worthy or if I'm having fun, I have no problem staying for hours!)

I will appreciate your recommendations. (And, if anyone wants to do it with me I'll drive and bring you up a great bottle as a gift for being a "participating tour guide! Just a thought).

Thanks! Looking forward to recommendations and you have my thanks in advance. I welcome responses here or personally via Beermail, either way is great!

Easy, hit up upright, hair of the dog, the commons, and cascade. They are basically in the same small area. Though upright opens a bit late in the day so maybe make that one last.

    My 2 cents.......

Stay on the Eastside. Tons of great breweries, bottle shops, bars, etc. Baileys Tap Room / Upper lip downtown would be the only reason to leave that side of town depending on what they have on tap.

If you are starting early afternoon, I say hit Hair of the Dog first (inner east side) as they open at 11:30. You can get tasters and also taste vintage bottles there. Do yourself a solid and drink a bottle of 2013 Matt.

After that, I would make the case to hit Baileys Tap Room or Deschutes downtown if it is still middle of the day. with no traffic it would take you literally 5 minutes from Hair of the Dog.

From there, head back east and just go up Burnside. Burnside brewing on your left. they make solid, but not spectacular beer. But it is on the way to other stops like Belmont Station, Horse Brass, or Imperial Bottle shop which are all about 5 minutes from each other (Belmont and Horse Brass are mere blocks away)

You could also go down MLK for 10 minutes from Burnside and get some beer at Breakside. They are awesome. From there you will be very close to Tin Bucket which always has an awesome taplist and growler fills.

Before leaving town, I urge you to hit Upright or Commons. Both should be open late Friday afternoon (the have odd hours because they are tasting rooms and not brewpubs).

I have left out tons of great places like Base Camp, Cascade Barrel house, Green Dragon, Victory Bar, Apex, etc. etc. But i figure your liver will be punished enough

Great suggestion. I still have several bottles so this is not an important issue for me. Suggestions are all wonderful! Thanks you!

Nth-ing Hair of the Dog and Cascade. Both are close to one another, centrally located, and do tasters. Hair of the Dog does flights. Be careful with both of those places though - even on tasters, they're high ABV so if you're putting them down somewhat quickly, driving might not end up a good option.

Bailey's and Belmont Station's Biercafe both tend to have great selections, and both do flights.

Thanks, Dad! I didn't know you were reading BA these days but I know that your heart is in the right place. Love you, say hi to Mom.
