Thanks for the update! I was hoping with a name like "darkness night" Bulldog would have some older versions of it.

This doesn't bother me but I think Surly should have named this years bottles BA Darkness or something to separate it from the regular Darkness version being sold on tap. As much as I like a barrel aged stout, it would be great to have the option to buy regular Darkness in bottles as well as BA Darkness. Maybe with the new brewery it will be an option next year to buy either variety.

So which version was on tap at Stub&Herbs for Darkness eve?

I'd like to know this as well. The 2014 I had at Stubs tasted strongly of marshmallows (or vanilla, whatever) that I would attribute to a barrel. However, I didn't get any real woody or whiskey flavors. Either way it was tasty, though taste buds may have been compromised after several other big beers

Does my statement of talking directly to Omar not count? :slight_frown:

@gopher44 - Curious if ya know... Unfortunately with the likes of BA Silhouette, Whiskey 10-50, Rum 10-50, Rum King... All I remember is that I ordered it - and it was good...

Wasn't referring to you, since you had a basis for your post, sir! So either Omar is wrong, you heard wrong, or the Surly rep is wrong. It seems odd that Surly would keg regular Darkness & bottle BA Darkness, but I know nothing. For about 22 hours, at least!

I'd rather be right without a source than wrong with one.

At least a mild case of attribution would be nice, since you're just another faceless internet creature. Otherwise, it looks like everyone is just guessing (including you), since we have people making definitive statements on both sides.

Whatever, I'll drink whatever form of Darkness is in my glass tomorrow.

My "guess" was corroborated by the tweet. I apologize for my disinterest in name dropping, clearly that activity is important to you.

He wasn't asking for name dropping, he was asking for simple corroboration (rather than just speculation, which runs rampant on this site). There's no reason for you to take a nasty dig at him when he was - very politely - looking for a source.

Paraphrased from what my Surly rep told me last week: Surly is brewing at capacity with their year round beers, and does not have tank space for seasonals like Darkness and Wet. The only way Surly was able to brew Darkness this year was to let it mature in another container. Thus, they brought in a bunch of high west whiskey casks.

My extrapolation: if Surly wasn't able to acquire enough whiskey casks for whatever reason it makes sense for them to have kegged off whatever didn't fit in the casks.
