I get it now, it isn't meant to be purchased by the actual consumer but rather by the beer drinkers loved ones to be gifted for Christmas. I could totally see some well intentioned relative putting this under the tree for me. To which I may blurt out something like "thanks but an entire case of Salvator or a few 4 packs of Celebrator would have gone a hell of a lot further".

Honestly, if I see a bottle, I'll probably buy one and try it. I'm curious.

If the vessel of choice is only 6oz and the entire package is only 25oz...25 divided by 6...with 1 oz to play with

Will they be using a special type of fish bladder in this beer?

I'm going to reserve judgement for when I find out more about this beer. Not really a lot of detail yet.

Everyone's jumping all over the price, but if this was a bottle of Cantillon no one would bat an eye. I fully realize it's not a Gueuze, and I've actually been to Cantillon and understand why the style is priced higher than others.

But seriously, most are jumping all over the (admittedly high) price tag because of the name attached to it, and not the beer. I think their Foreign Extra Stout is a good beer, so they're certainly capable of creating drinkable higher strength brews.

If this beer actually hits the shelves at $35 per 750, and there's honestly no reason (or explanation) for the high price tag. AND the beer is mediocre, then flame away. Until then, I'll wait until I know more, and I'm definitely curious.

I can get a good bottle of port for that money.

I always wondered when the big guys would realize that large-format bottles are free money. I think they took this one a little too far...

If I don't shell out $30 for Eclipse I'm sure not shelling out $35 for something made by Guinness.

If it were offered to me, sure I'd try it. Or if people on this site start telling me it's the greatest thing ever.

“Guinness® The 1759(TM) has flair, from the sleek aesthetic of the bottle design to the stylish black velvet lined gift box through to its unique flavor and combination of ingredients. Those who have come to love Guinness know we always aspire to go beyond their expectations with each new product release, and this exclusive beer will not disappoint.”

Notice the box and bottle are well described (really, black velvet :grimacing:) FIRST but then the actual beer has unique flavor and.....wait for it....a combination of ingredients. WOW, that is.....very insightful. Please, tell me more about this ingredients :stuck_out_tongue:

This is why we have to do our part and spread the word. ADVOCATE AGAINST deceptive marketing practices like this. Don't let any craft lovers get caught with this as a gift on Christmas Day (Hanukkah, etc)!

Forget it. Sadly there are plenty of folks that think a premium price translates into a premium product. I've not had the beer, but I think everyone here can think of better brews for those big clams.

That's why I said half kidding . Bourbon barrel aging would not be optimal. How about a sour stout in a Nitro can? I'd shell out some money for that.

Never liked any Guinness but FES. Tried the blonde lager ......yuuckk. Its all about the marketing here now boys and girls.
Hats t shirts and Guinness battered seafóod etc. Great job but if you enjoy adventurous cutting edge and unique ideas in brewing avoid this.

It's all about the box. Velvet lined. Just think if Firestone Walker put velvet in their boxes; they're literally missing out on $15 - $19 of revenue per bottle by not stuffing some velvet in the box.

And if Velvet Merkin .... came with a real VELVET MERKIN. BOOM! I'd be wearing it to all future tasting events.

Actually, now that I think of it ... I may buy this just so I can take the velvet out of the box and make a merkin out of it.

Was waiting to see when we would start hearing the term "ultra premium" in the beer world:slight_frown: This makes me sad.

of course if it's still there gathering dust in 5 years, that price could be a steal
