I'm off to Lewes this week to see the famous November 5th celebrations. I'll have a few days down there to have a look around and visit places (Brighton in particular).

I know that Harveys and Dark Star are nearby, but does anyone have any beer-related advice for me? What are the breweries, pubs and bottle shops that I should seek out while I'm in the area?

    Thanks in advance.....

I lived in Brighton for 22 years, it's an awesome place as is Lewes.

In terms of breweries, obviously Harvey's is a must and Dark Star's pub in Brighton (The Evening Star). There is also the Brighton Bier Co. which makes some solid brews as well as North Laines which can be a little hit and miss.

For pubs, Basketmakers Arms is always solid (if you're a Fullers fan) and has great food. Lord Nelson Inn is the Harvey's pub and is a very nice old fashioned boozer. If you're looking for something more craft than real ale, there is now a Craft Beer Co. pub that has a lot of interesting things on tap and a decent line-up of bottles.

For bottle shops, Trafalgar Wines has a good selection of British, European and US stuff. Can't think of too many other bottle shops though.

Let me know if you have any questions, unfortunately my love for good beer came towards the end of my time in Brighton so this information may all be a little out of date now.

Trafalgar wines is the only shop I know of in Brighton too.
As far as Lewes, the Harvey's shop is pretty good.

OK, thanks for the replies. I'll try and report back if I find anything spectacular....
