I'm thinking about taking a trip to Cali in July. Thinking about flying into San Francisco from Chicago and checking out Russian River and Lagunitas. I understand they are only 20 minutes apart. Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay? I want to be close to the breweries, but I figure most of the attractions are closer to San Fran. What else could I check out that's in that area thats interesting? Can anyone recommend any attractions worth checking out near San Francisco? I'm down for checking out anything from hiking to zoos, to restaurants, or any big events occuring in that area around that time. I've only been to southern California so i've already done LA, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Venice Beach, etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Anadel Park in Santa Rosa offers many trails and is a beautiful place.

The closest hotels to Russian River is the Hotel La Rose in Railroad Square, though that's pricey. There's also a Hyatt and a Marriott a couple blocks away from Hotel La Rose. There are plenty of seedy options on Santa Rosa Ave!

SF offers Golden Gate park, the Zoo, Ocean Beach and of course the Golden Gate Bridge to walk. There's also museums and plenty of other attractions. Take your pick.

Don't miss Toronado, Magnolia or City Beer.

    Enjoy!

Edit: oh, and there's some place called Dancing Bear I've also heard of

I have a suggestion, try searching. As you might imagine, you're far from the first person to be interested in visiting RR and Lagunitas on a Nor Cal trip.

As far as SF, it's a big city, with many touristy things to do. There is hiking, a zoo, restaurants, events, an island with an old jail on it, a colored bridge, beer pubs, shopping, etc.

Pleanty of great brew pubs in S.F. and surrounding areas. S.F. has Magnolia which is great for real cask ale, 21st Amendment, Thirsty Bear, Toronado, and there is a Rogue Alehouse as well. When you're up north of the city visiting Russian River and Lagunitas, consider taking a day/night trip up the coast to visit Fort Bragg and North Coast Brewing Co. On the way back you can take hwy 128 and stop in Boonville where Anderson Valley Brewing Co. has a nice taproom and visitor center.

I have some specifics in mind, just wanted to feel out the local suggestions, something that can't be found on a cali tourist website. Can anyone recommend a good place to eat in Chinatown?

You may want to check out the A's game and then go to Beer Revolution in Oakland. You can also take the ferry to Angel Island and hike around there. Great views of the SF Skyline, GG Bridge to be had.

Thanks for all the specific suggestions, I now have a long and detailed list of things to check out. I don't know if there is any String Cheese Incident fans here, but I will be checking them out at the Greek Theater. They're going to be there July 13th-15th.
