Who knew there were so many ba close to Cheers (my local store)

I watched the whole discussion last night on public access.

It was nice to see frank ball get served by one of the councilman. He accused total wine of selling some Kendall Jackson $.75 below cost. The councilman pointed out that he had purchased it even cheaper than what total wine was charging at a different store in Bloomington. To which frank ball said it was probably on sale which rendered his accusation use less.

Disappointing that my councilman was the guy who voted to approve with conditions

Thanks, I'm not expecting too much from the MGM over there. The Edina Liquor around 50th and France is fairly solid, but I'm seldom in that neighborhood.

If you're in that general area, France 44 has a solid craft beer selection with a large walk-in cooler.

True that. Both are good stores. I mention the municipal store because I was able to find BCBS there decently past the time I might have expected to see it anywhere else. Granted, it was the last one on the shelf, but I was happy to see it all the same.

From what I hear TW is planning a Nov 14 opening. For the record, after the 3+ hrs of discussion the vote was:

5 for granting the license without conditions (District III Councilmember Jack Baloga made the motion)
2 opposed (presumably they would have voted yes if there were conditions to the license approval)

The two that opposed were Mayor Winstead and District II Councilmember Andrew Carlson (both up for reelection next year).

An example of a condition is that prior to state law allowed tastings in the store, TW would have to establish to the satisfaction of the city that they're going to meet the "educational" requirement found in the state law. Another is city review of invoices and pricing to ensure that products were not sold below cost.

At least the correct result was eventually reached...

The consumer is obviously at a disadvantage is the product is sold below cost...

I think the real reason shopowners are against this isn't about TW's selection, but how cheap what they DO have is. Like it or not, I suspect the meat and potatoes of a liquor stores sales are always going to be in cheap, fast moving, products. It's no different that walmart (or kmart); "they may not have the latest or highest end stuff, but I can sure buy the hell out of some cheap ass shit!"

Roseville TW has Founder Backwoods Bastard 4 packs for 12.99. no limit. Which is $2 cheaper then say Zipps or other stores... So I'm glad they're competitive with limited seasonal releases

I will still go to my normal guy for beer, but scotch on the other hand....TW blows the competition out of the water and I will definitely take advantage of those savings.

Ya, other than $8 furious, their beer selection and prices are good but not great. (exception maybe being $10.99 summit and sierra nevada every day. Most places this is a sale price) but in general they're in line with other places prices.

But for the wife, their champagne is 25-50% cheaper than most places and scotch is similar.

I'm not a TW advocate, simply a beeradvocate, but here are a few "good" prices they have off the top of my graying head:

    Pumking at 6.99 (I've seen a fairly standard 8.99)
    Furious is 7.49,actually
    Deviant Dale's at 10.99 (12.99 elsewhere)
    Lagunitas at 1.50 a sixer less,generally...

If you are buying for a zombie apocalypse, party or just stocking up, it would seem like a good place to be considered. I don't have any places in my neighborhood (heck, state) that are in line with their prices.

Any firm updates on the opening date for Bloomington? I was at Trader Joes next door the other day and they appeared to be stocking the place.
