I follow pizza boy on face book, and a couple weeks ago they posted about some sours being released. They were just waiting on the labels and until then allowed for in house sampling. Did these ever go for sale to take out? And also before they posted about those sours they posted another picture about an apricot and a peach sour? Are these different from the other beers? I know the one set of sours is based off Abascio-Cell, which is fantastic. I've been waiting to make my trip up there since it's 2 hours away, but I feel I've already missed these some how? Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks for looking. Also feel free to use this thread for any upcoming releases, would love to try and keep them on lock down, their making some incredible stuff.

    Cheers,
    Ryan

yes, there are additional apricot and peach beers that will be released that are not a part of the "abascio" lineup

I never read anything on Facebook about their last release. Are they doing these on the DL?

I think last time they released beers, it was announced day of.

hoping to swing by Pizza Boy when I'm driving out 81 to WV next weekend. When they've released beers perviously, has it always been on Saturday or anything? I'm driving out on Friday and back on Sunday, it'd be cool to grab some bottles but I'll be stoked to just get some growlers even.

so far they have only done 1 bottle release for take away and it was indeed a saturday morning. one of the bottles released (bleurbon berry) was quite limited (less than 250 bottles) and sold out that day. the other bottle was available for a couple days after the release and also saw some limited distribution

as far as i am aware (and im sure someone will correct me if im wrong) everything that is pending release are bottle counts large enough that you dont need to camp outside for fear of getting shut out. i strongly believe they have enough that they will last beyond the day they are released to-go.

I think you are correct with the most recent awaiting label approval, but the upcoming peach and apricot sours I think I remember Al saying will have bottle totals close to Bleurbon Berry (228 bottles).

So do you know if these will be brewery only or will they see distribution? Als is a bit of a hike for me (I'm on the main line), so I haven't made it out there yet, but I just grabbed my first Pizza Boy brew the other day at Pinnochios in Media where they got some Simcoe SamuRye in, and holy moly was that stuff good. Very interested in getting my hands on some of their sours.

What I hear is that once the labels are approved they will be available for take out but I have not heard anything about in house only on the apricot and peach sours. The other ined are available now in house.

There are bottles of Simcoe SamuRye and West Shore IPA available now at Al's. I really enjoy both of these beers but have to question the packaging and pricing of these, plus the previously released Bean Dream. I thought originally they were to be canned, 16 oz. I believe but instead were put in 22 oz bottles for $7. As I said before I'm a big fan of both and will continue to drink them on draft and get growler's but at approx. 31 cents/oz by the bottle there are way too many other great IPAs and Pale Ales out there at $10-12 a six (16 cents/oz) to justify too many purchases of these bottles, even DIPAs at $12 a 4pk. are cheaper. Hope they eventually move to a 4 or 6 pack format as I will gladly support Pizza Boy for my everyday go-to beers if they are competitively priced.

You're comparing bombers to 12oz not a fair comparison. Do you remember when sculpin was in bombers it was $8-$10 per bottle. $7 is not bad for a fairly limited beer. Heard they weren't happy with the mobile canner set up so they went with bottles instead.

I remember when a case of Sculpin was 85$ for 22oz bombers. Then it was 70$ for the 12 oz bottles, then it was 60$ and today it is about 55$ a case. Multiple folks question the quality of the Sculpin in bottles vs on draft.

Just sayin' it may be fairly limited right now but when it becomes readily available I hope you guys do better than Ballast Point has with Sculpin.

Not quite sure how it's not fair, I broke it down price per oz. for each format. My point simply was $7 for 22 oz of a really good IPA vs. $10-12 for 72 oz of a really good IPA, more than 3 times the beer for less than twice the money. If SamuRYE and Bean Dream are going to be limited rotation or one offs then more understandable, but I thought West Shore was to be a regularly available packaged beer. And if so, that's where my disappointment arose as I wanted to keep that beer in the fridge on a regular basis. There is just a shitload of great options out there.

Yes there are a lot of great options out there but again you are comparing a 22oz bottle to an oz-oz break down of a 6pk. Look at grapefruit sculpin in a mux a six its $4-$5 per single. So with that calculation west shore at $7 per 22oz would be a better deal.

Here we go again is exactly what I thought too when I read the pricing post. I knew someone would be along soon to tell DrBier why he's wrong...

For some reason most Pizza Boy threads fall to crap by the end of the first page. One day we'll get it right.
