Prairie's wax used to be terrible. Im glad the switched over to the plastic cover. Remind of the terrible New Glarus wax.

This, they're always kind of sad looking.

The Bruery's wax is almost too good. You practically need a chisel and hammer to get it off.

The Trinity ones are notorious for having the wax full-on fall off. Seems kind of pointless to do if it's not very sturdy.
At the same time, I prefer that to the Dechutes wax which seems to have 21 layers and takes a blowtorch and chisel combo to reach in less than an hour.

I've always found Dark Lord wax caps to be a real PITA to remove...

Agreed. The last two-dozen or so waxed bottles of Prairie I've come across have had a) the bottom edge of the cap poking clear through the wax; or b) such a thin layer of wax across the top of the cap that it made me wonder why they even bothered.

However, the beer was fantastic haha.

Of course presentation matters in the enjoyment of something one consumes. But come on, the wax? Do you not enjoy a wonderful meal at a restaurant because there is a pin-head sized wine stain on the very corner of the table cloth? Two each their own, but I couldn't see that impacting my enjoyment of a beer (again, unless the wax job didn't do what it was supposed).

Anyone that hasnt tried to open an Event Horizon, Imperial Stout, or Lindley Park from Olde Hickory has no idea what the worst waxing job is. The only reason I still have my bottle from last year is the thought of trying to get the wax off.

Forgot about Event Horizon! Opened a 2010 recently and that was concrete on top of the bottle. You sir are correct about that.

I've never liked the wax...Almost lost a finger trying to get into a Terrapin Cinnamon Roll Wake-n-Bake Stout last Thanksgiving

And I'm not going to lie...my mind went immediatly into the gutter when I read the title of this post...sadly, I'm a little disappointed

Wax? Tips? Fingers? um.... ok. Not a fan of wax in general. Difficult, and 10% of the time I wind up with some in the bottle...

I might be popping it saturday, but idk. I remember it being super sweet and thin last year, so it may need more time. BCBS was finally drinking well last week.

Glad you made the comparison to a restaurant, but I wouldn't say the "pin-head sized wine stain" is an apt comparison. I would put it more in the vein of a restaurant with delicious food but a garish design. Does it deter from the flavor? Only in the sense that it distracts and is an eyesore.

The difference though is that Logsdon could just forego the wax. Why take a step that in fact makes the bottle LESS attractive, cheapens it and could potentially lead to less sales?

My point, I guess (besides that I found this whole concept of waxing laughable last night as I got a slight buzz of the Seizoen Bretta as I drank it), is wax in general is rarely agreeable to me, but the thin efforts in which you can actually see parts of the bottle cap not even covered in wax are the most questionable. How does a brewery look at these and say, "yeah, that looks good, people are gonna love it"?

Am I splitting hairs? I suppose. Should breweries reconsider wax if it's going to look like shit on a bottle? Absolutely.

Again, let me emphasize that the post was meant to be light-hearted, that I DID NOT complain (as you suggested), and that I was making an observation.

A few posters have indicated their disdain or sense of disgust at the choice of topic, which is cool, but let's be serious, forums are like sitting around drinking beer with your homies, nothing is taboo, nothing's really original (unless you're high as bats), and in the end it's all meaningless. I have to chuckle at the folks that want to grade the content on here and give stamps of approval to one post over another. In the end it's all banter unless it's something serving to educate or inform.

Again, I don't know how to post pics on BA, too complicated. Here's a link to some Trinity bottles:

Is there even any actual purpose to waxing these bottles? Do they use defective crowns or something? Sure, maybe if you're going to put it in the cellar for a few years. Maybe.

Wax is stupid. Period. Slowing me down getting to my beer. Probably increases cost too.

The New Glarus wax is just pointless. If you are going to do something, do it with a purpose. Same for Logsdon's bees wax, put on like 10 layers and atleast make it worth it.
