Thoughts on professional athletes starting up breweries? It's nothing new seeing these guys with all their disposable income investing in something they know nothing about but it's usually a restaurant or a clothing company. Featuring a "Celtic style pale ale" and a "Scandinavian style blonde." Alrighty then

They need to bring John Daly on board so they can make "Wasted Talent Lager" a tobacco infused high ABV AAL

I think it's a terrific idea! Three well known golfers marketing beer to their niche market - the 19th hole at golf courses. I look forward to trying it.

I wish them luck but chances are good they'll probably have as much success as some of the athlete-owned restaurants that rely on the name to bring in business instead of good food and service, as if the person whose name is over the place will be there every hour the place is open meeting and greeting all the while.

Not to be a debbie downer, but the name sucks. GolfBeer? WTF? I will still welcome the beer to my local courses, anything is better than Ultra...

Next up, Spinal Tap themed beers like Nigel's nut brown and Derek's Doppelbock. I would buy the shit out of those

Also came across this farce of a beer:

With the recent news of the drummer being charged with plotting murder, maybe people will buy this as a novelty...

Don't see why not. Plenty of athletes, musicians and so forth have started wineries, why not a brewery? Keep in mind Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden paired with Robinson's for the Trooper, and one of the Colorado jam-band guys (moe? string Cheese Incident? Worked with one of the Brewers out there. Why not start their own?

Brew Hub out of Lakeland, FL - which also brews for Cigar City. Brew Hub is headed by ex-AB VP, Tim Schoen.

    Sorry...

That can be used as a tee after drinking the beer.

Seriously I don't know about the concept. I'm a fairly avid golfer (and I rarely drink on the course - after is another story) but the vast majority of golfers judging by empties in trash cans and just my observations drink Bud Light and prefer it served by an attractive young "cart girl" they can flirt with. I do like these guys, especially Graeme McDowell, so I wish them all the luck but wonder if they'll even be able to get taps at "19th holes" in light of the recent P2P discussion.

Haters! Give it a try. If it's good, who cares about the concept, who makes it, or the name? If it tastes like the back of an LA school bus, then don't drink it. The cream always rises to the top.

I don't get it....why not cans ? Most golf courses only sell cans in the half way house or via cart girl.

Frank Thomas has a brewery called Big Hurt and will open up a brew pub in Berwyn, IL. It's awful and more painful to drink than watching him sit out in the 2005 World Series.

"If Motorhead can do it, I'm sure these guys can."

    Hold up. What?

If Motorhead does something, it's likely no one else in the world can do it, especially not some lame-ass golfers. \m/
