So will the new Portland brewpub even be successful? How much time will A-B give it?

I believe they sold Merchant du Vin when they sold Pike and did not buy it back.

I imagine it'll be managed by 10 Barrel themselves, and as long as it's doing ok keep it around. But if it is just ok for too long/not ok or they need to cut something out of the budget it or the Boise location will be first on the chopping block.

prob will do just fine. most people who would frequent it I think wouldn't know or even care. not everyone is as picky as some of us.

Completely agree with this. I'm sure AB will use the pubs as a vehicle to sell the rest of their product line currently available in the NW, along with the current 10 barrel line-up. If the pubs do well enough to justify their continued viability as an AB money making asset, then I'm sure AB will keep them around. Otherwise, I'm sure they'll be only too happy to unload them.

Frankly, it would not surprise me at all if they eventually unload all three of the current pub locations, or in alternative, simpy convert them into some sort of AB taphouse.

I cannot imagine their being AB products on tap at 10 Barrel. It just doesnt fit the vibe and it would bring in minimal money.

I dont believe the Goose Island Brewpub serves up anything but Goose Island beer. Also of note, I just did a bit of research and it looks like the Goose Island brewpub in Wrigleyville just closed permanently last month, which means one brewpub left. I think it is safe to say that if 10 barrel pubs are too much work and not producing, they will be shut down rather quickly.

Best case scenario (for you distrought locavores out there): 10 barrel brew pubs close down permanently, and all production gets moved to an AB location and out of our major beer cities. Also hoping that the brew team strikes out and starts their own brewery.

Jeremy Cox said. “The only thing that changes is that we will have bosses in Chicago”

So Jeremy, doesn't sound like you have much say in it then. lol

This is my take as well. If the current owner is calling all the shots, then I believe him when he says that he doesn't plan to add AB beverages to the menu at the 10 barrel pubs. However, it doesn 't sound like he's calling the shots any more.

Also, when he says AB beverages... does that include GI, Red Hook, Stella and Widmer as well (just as an example), or is he just talking about all the run of the mill Bud, Mich and shock top crap?

I'll say close to 0% chance that any of those AB beers wind up on a menu at 10 Barrel - not really the point, but if thats concerning people, it shouldn't. Won't happen - makes no sense.

    Genuine Portland location questions:
    1) can kids go?
    2) can dogs go?
    3) is the food gonna be good?

    Another genuine question...

Should 10 Barrel change the somewhat funny pop-up that greets you when you visit their website? The choice "I'm a brewery owner with no game trying to steal your ideas" seems disgustingly ironic, and just downright disgusting at this point.

Have you been to the 10 barrel pub in Bend? The reason I ask, is that based on my impression of the pub and the clientele there, I'd say that the addition of some AB tap handles wouldn't phase most of the folks there one bit. In fact, I'll bet Stella would be a huge hit with a lot of the folks I saw there the last time I stopped by.

Like you it sounds, I could really care less if there are any AB beers on the menu or not. My comment was based on my impression of the AB corporate mindset, and frankly, I don't think they would hesitate for one minute to add some AB products to the taplist if they thought it would help the bottom line (and that's regardless of what the previous owner's feelings are on the matter).

I'll give them 6 months. If after 6 months the pub still hasn't added any AB products to the pub menu, then the next time I see you DirtyLou, the first round is on me (and I'll make it a point to look you up and pay up!) :-)

what in interesting exercise. Fish or Scuttlebutt have a wide selection and good bottle distro. But....if it comes to draft handles.....there is one name/one beer that stands head and shoulders above the rest.

I bet Boise would get AB tap handles before either Bend or Portland.

Agreed. Far to talented to waste away at an AB offshoot.
