None. It is not philosophical. I've had beers that I consider exceptional in all respects. But I rate by attribute, and while I've given a handful of 5s for an attribute, it has never been 5s across the board.

    Untappd says 29 :flushed:

Might have rated some beers to high. But in the beginning it's hard to give a correct score imo.

Enjoy By was up there, but I found that after 2.14.14 it dropped off a bit, though I haven't had any of the recent releases, they don't make it over here to Shanghai :slight_frown:

One back in 2005 to a Cave Aged Ommegang Abbey. It was flawless to me at the time.

Had Lucky Basartd last night and it is too hoppy and light bodied to be a perfect 5 for the style Strong Ale IMO. I think DB exemplifies perfectly every characteristic of the style.

I don't treat the rating system as highly as others I guess. I have 13. I don't think they are all 5/5 but I gave them a 5 so I could look through my list and find my favorites. If I could consider drinking it for a year straight i'll give it a 5.

If the bros give hundreds, I can give 5s.

In my opinion, watch Daym Drops review of 5 guys fries. For me, if I react to a beer like he does when eating 5 guys, the beer gets a "5 all day son!"

Zero. :slight_frown: Quite a few 4.75s. There are a few beers I feel like I probably need to revisit and reevaluate.

I have a few 5's, but for me they are beers I think are great.
I certainly do not think I am qualified to determine which beers are perfect, and which are not.

Zero. I've given five 4.75s and thirty 4.5s out of a bit over 200. Some of those could edge up a bit but not a quarter point.

There are over 100 different beer styles listed on this site. I propose that the highest rated beer in each style would have to be a 5 because no one has had a better beer. So everyone that drank the highest rated beer should have several 5's.

Two, but only one purely on beer merit; and that was to Ten FIDY. The best stout, heck, the best beer; I have ever had. So far.

I also gave Guinness on tap a five, too, but it benefited from being consumed in tiny pubs in middle of nowhere Ireland, after a two minute pour, with fresh seafood, on honeymoon with my wife. Beer is about more than just taste, oftentimes, and this is one of those times. Guinness is synonymous with a fantastic life experience for me.

I am pretty giving with the 5 star ratings I suppose. I am at 80+ beers and have something like 10 five star ratings. Everyone judges beer and the rating system differently and there is nothing wrong with that. Some here are very strict and critical, judging a beer down to a 'T'. I rate mine, not against others or a style, but mainly as how much I enjoy that beer. If I purely love it, flaws and all, then it gets a 5.

5=A Favorite. Get it every chance you get.
4=A rock solid beer, can't go wrong here. Buy it again, unless there is a 5 available.
3=Okay beer. Not bad, not a favorite. Get it again if you are feeling like it. Not really seeking it out again though.
2=Just not up to snuff. Don't buy again.
1=This may have been brewed in an old boot or the bottom of a public swimming pool. If someone offers this or a water, take the water, because it's just not worth it.

The points in between a round number, are how close a beer is coming to hitting the next tier above or below where it currently is. If it's 4.75, it's damn close to being a favorite.
