Making an IPA soon, wanted some feedback on my hop schedule...
    OG 1.066
    US-05
    9.25 gal batch
    60 minute boil

(Mixture of hops is: 1/4 Galaxy, 1/4 Citra, 1/4 Motueka, 1/4 Centennial)

1.25 oz Galaxy - FWH (then 60 min)
2.5 oz Mix (see above) - 10 min
    1 oz Amarillo - 5 min
3.5 oz Mix - Hopstand (once wort is down to 180 F)
4 oz Mix - Dry Hop.

I realize it is 5 different kinds of hops, but I don't see any of the flavors clashing....

What do you think about the amount of hops I'm using? And timing?

Calculated IBUs NOT counting any from the Hopstand is 44. I want this to be full of hop flavor, but not all that bitter.

I have never done a full blown Hopburst/FWH IPA... Thanks!

A little confused with your FWH addition. What does the "FWH (then 60 min)" mean? I'm also curious what you are using to calculate IBUs.

FWH extracts even more bittering than an earlier, say 60 min, addition. So that is to be considered if you want to limit the bitterness. You will get bitterness from the earlier additions.

Those hops should play well together.

I'd add a touch more to the dry hop addition. 2 More oz would make me happy.

The (then 60 min) is just referring to my boil time. I know FWH extrActs more IBUs, but the overall bitterness will be smoother...

    Got it.

I've listened to a few Brew Strong podcasts where Jamil Z. states the exact opposite (that FWH produces harsher bitterness). In full disclosure, I've never FWHed, but I wouldn't anyway bc I take what he and others say as fact that I don't have to find out for myself. There are those that FWH and love it. I think there is room for both in home brewing.

I used FWH once before and it was smooth. But I don't have much to compare it to... Only way would e to do the same recipe and sub regular 60 min for the FWH

I think he means a standard FWH (FWH followd by 60 min boil). I think it is good he is specifying...it could be a 90 min FWH or a 15 min FWH...just depends when you take the hopefully bagged hops out

Personally, if I were doing a hopburst beer and wanted to also FWH, I would do a 15 min to keep it sort of hopbursted even though the terms are mutually exclusive. Cheers

I may be speaking too general. The little I looked online, was conflicting info. But I vividly remember JZ saying he doesn't bc he perceives it as harsher. I am by no means denouncing FWH.
