Also the hops in this diamond reign appear to have triggered by hayfever... or maybe i'm just allergic to England being good at football?

Have had Rioja's from the 70's and 80's over the last year or two (all excellent!!!) but never had any vintage new world fayre

My favourite "go to" to quote our cousins across the pond, CA is Ravenswood Zinfandel Lodi

They have it in Sainsburys around the £9.50 mark, you won't go wrong with it!

Right - I've polished off a Budweiser Dark (the Czech one) and have now cracked a bottle of Goose Island Pere Jacques. It's quite boozy but nicely rounded. Tasty!

Pere Jacques was good - I might have to grab another some time. Curious Porter has also been consumed, and I'm now on a Chimay Red to round out the evening.

and another note from over west. tonight had Torpedo, Dirty Bastard, and a couple of common tips like Sam Adams L-48 and a Great Lakes Burning River. Up much too late for my morning bird survey.

Now that IS quality. Onward England! All they need at this point is a draw with Ukraine...they can manage that right?

Superb goal from Welbeck. Things are definitely looking up for England at the moment.

Nice strong coffee for the interval !

Yes - sublime finish, it was all he could do to score

And to execute that was precision akin to landing it on a six pence!

hmmmm .... we 'can' manage a draw, we 'should' beat the Ukraine but this is England so who knows!

BTW,last night's Paradox was an absolute brain rattler. Developed pretty reasonably in the glass over time though.

Talking of whisky aged beers, I finally picked up a bottle of http://www.beer-pages.com/notes/beer-of-the-month-2012-01.html a few hours ago

Went with my mate who works for M&S so felt slightly better paying £8 instead of £10!

Also picked up the Greenwich red ale

Going to be getting my fill of Meantime beers, staying 5 minutes away from the Old Brewery for a few days.

Any reccies as to 'must visit' beer meccas around Greenwich?

Not an expert on Greenwich but certainly nothing in the 'Mecca' category in those parts!

The Greenwich Union of course, the other Meantime pub where you may find different brews available

You can walk up to the observatory from the Naval College/Old Brewery area then down the other side of the hill to drop you off there

Only other pub of note in those parts is the Pelton Arms near Maze Hill station, about a 15ish minute walk east of the naval college

By no means a 'mecca' but in the GBG and a nice enough boozer having used it a few times over the years for Charlton away games

Which one was it? I've got a Paradox Springbank stashed away - my brother gave it to me for my birthday a couple of years ago and I've neglected it. I've also got Paradox Jura somewhere - I sampled it once and thought it was great!

Edit: OK, you mentioned it was Arran above. I should learn to read.....

They tapped one Thursday evening last week, I turned up on Saturday 7pm and the buggers had drank it

    Fingers crossed

Cheers Ruds, seems i'm going to have to spread my net a bit further. Went to Borough Market a couple of years back. Cue hoots of derision from me as to the prices at certain places within the environs. I've learned a lot about paying stupid money for beer in the interim...
