So that DB Huna got me thinking about other beers aged in Apple Brandy barrels. For those of you that have had stouts aged in Apple brandy barrels, how good are they? Obviously this will differ per beer but I am more curious about the effect that the apple barrels has on the beer. Sounds fantastic to me.

I've had Muy Bonita and Big Black Voodoo Daddy, and they were delicious. That voodoo daddy was absolutely amazing, would love to try more apple brandy beers.

Captain Lawrence has a Tripel aged in Apple Brandy barrels that I haven't tried, but included a few in trades -- I'm not a big Belgian fan, so will probably share with someone in a situation where I just get a taste.

Yeah I didn't even know that it actually existed until I saw that post.

You'll find out... suffice to say you got #properglassware

#properglassware is something I need to invest in... I don't have any snifters! I refuse to open any of my sours or BA stouts until I get one (which will probably be the next time I swing by troegs.... probably thanksgiving weekend)

Generally "#properglassware" refers more to what's on the glass than its shape; it could be a boring old shaker pint but if it's from the same brewery as the beer in question, it's #properglassware, despite that it's not really the "proper" glass from which to drink that beer. @edhizdeid's box is an example of this.

With that said, I wholeheartedly support you getting glassware that is appropriate to the styles of beer you want to drink, shapes and sizes differ for a good reason and I for one think it's worth at least some level of investment to get a variety of options.

Yeah, I might send one of them, but haven't decided. In that other thread some people seem to be making trades for the explicit purpose of BIFing stuff, and while that's a great moneymaker for UPS and Fedex, I am not about to do that. But @EA728 did me the favor of sending some of my target's wants, I didn't realize until I "processed the files into my database" that I had them as wants as well :-) Thanks for the input!

    on that first point... oops

on the second point, yeah I'd like to at least have one type of glassware other than pint, haha

I think I have snifters from about 6 different places, because I just prefer that type of glass and like some of the designs. I DO have a few other glasses (by pure coincidence, one is a Troeg's pint glass) that I will use for something from that brewery, and I agree that is the definition of #properglassware. About a month ago I had a growler from Captain Lawrence, and my only glass from them is a 3- or 4-ounce tasting glass, I actually tried to fill it up and zoom in for a picture (in a close up so you wouldn't notice the size), but the beer was dark and the writing on the glass was black so it didn't work.

My most-frequented bottle shop often gives me a free glass (or two or occasionally three) when I spent a shitkilo of money there, I have reached the point where I sometimes peruse the glass selection before buying beer, because last time I dropped $100 and they let me choose 3 glasses and I couldn't find anything I wanted :-(

I've been fortunate to meet some very generous traders on this site. The first time I got DB Huna for JK MvB + CdT right after their release (this was from a friend in Denver). This time I traded 4 avery black eye and I'm doing a pickitupformebro of some Tweak and more black eye. Once again, very generous traders....

I'm not a huge Belgian fan either. Especially when it comes to tripels and quads.

Yeah that was my thought as well, my personal guideline is that if I had to pay for shipping to receive it, unless it's an extra, odds are that's because I want it and haven't had it yet myself. I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where I can generally hit a few wants and pretty nice stuff without going to such lengths, and I also assume that if it's a relatively available item from someone else's distro, then that person will either get matched up eventually with someone from that area, or they can set up a trade easily enough. In threads like this one (and 12 Days) it's an awesome group so setting up trades is incredibly easy; and as we've seen, sometimes it's not even a 'trade' (lookin at you @Clarkson, among others)

You're not kidding, I don't know a ton about the "value" of rare bottles since I almost never trade based on that, but I do know that DBH generally trades for MUCH more than that!

@bostonbeans just opened himself an Apple Brandy Big Black Voodoo Daddy, perhaps he'd jump threads a minute to weigh in?

    I'll Gladly help bud!

I've had DBH, Just cracked open this ABBVD and I've had a nice imperial porter from Howard Brewing called Mistletoe. The DBH is hard to compare because it's a DB, but the ABBVD has a smoother finish and some what of a more aromatic after taste. I really like it. It differentiates from a bourbon because it's a much smoother finish to it and it almost has a licorice finish to it. I'm no expert, I just drink a lot of beer.. But those are my 2 cents.
