The draft prices are great--bottles, not so much.

UltraHop 2000 releases today at BWLB. Equinox and other experimental hops in this the newest BW IPA. "Flavors and aromas of apple, tangerine, and guava." Had mixed feelings about Noble Ale's Equinox Showers. Not sure about the hops yet. Maybe BW will change that.
Also releasing soon (this Sunday???) is their newest collaboration with Drakes-Vulcanizer IPA. Another IPA melded with new hop varieties.
It's amazing how almost all their IPA's are at 7.1 or 7.2%ABVs.

For twenty bucks or over per bomber, is it outlandish to expect Parabola/Sucaba/Anniversary level greatness? I love Julian's beer, but that price and having to take the long trip to Long Beach has kept me from buying any of their special bottle releases.

I did crack a bomber of Tovarish at a bottle share a few weeks ago. Too much coffee for my personal preference. it was my first special bottle from them and didn't set my world aflame, so... more for those who want it, I guess!

All of his coffee beers are over the top coffee. I'd suggest sitting them down for a few months if that's not your thing.

They've mellowed slightly. I remember the first batches of System of a Stout and Mocha Machine were like eating straight coffee beans. At least this year's batches (not so much Mocha Machine) were a tiny bit more mellow

yeah, this year's mocha machine was way too coffee bomb. Needed some time to mellow.

I asked Julian if this beer would be ready to drink yet (it was about 18 months old). He said the coffee had probably fallen off. If that's the case, it must have been pure coffee fresh.

Had the UltraHop 2000 this afternoon. And a very quite sneak peek taste of the Vulcanizer before it's unveiling at 6pm at BWLB. I liked the UltraHop 2000 more than the Vulcanizer. Both had that BW signature IPA coming in at 7.1% ABV's and 99+ IBU's. How do they do that? Most all of their IPA's are at 7.1 or 7.2 and 99+. Both using experimental hops and both tasting different from each other. The UltraHop 2000 was released the other day (yesterday maybe?) Vulcanizer today at 6pm. I don't care for their 5 or 6 pm policy for new releases. But thats another ranting and raving thread. I was not going to fill my growler with the 2000, but I did anyway's to see how it is after a week of mellowing out. I did this once with Hop Ninja the first day it was released. Very skunk and grassy. Out of the growler a week or so later and it tasted like another outstanding DIPA from BWBBQnB! I was hoping for another Mind Melder style from the Drakes/BW collab. But i guess the lawyers shut it down. So the Vulcanizer is born. I'll go back and give the Vulcanizer another try in a few days and see how it is then. But for now the Amalgamator is BW's best IPA in my opinion.

Y'all are crazy. I don't even drink coffee and I love this year's mocha machine. If you're reading this Julian, please don't tone it down.

In my experience BW coffee beers don't age well. The going theory I've heard from others is that the Portola beans that BW uses are on the green side and as the beers ages this causes the coffee flavor to turn vegetal and green peppery. At least that's what I've found with Tovarish and System.

The latest batch of CitraHolic is sick! For those lucky ones who got bottles of Citra should compare the two. Bottles of CitraHolic will be out next Tuesday. For those of use who cannot wait till Tuesday it is on tap at BWLB right now. Had a couple of pints at the brewpub yesterday and filled a growler to go. I should of brought another growler or 2 to fill. I will say for those who love citra hops this is a fine time with the release of Citra, CitraHolic and Deep River (no citra hops but similar taste with mosaic and simcoe hops). I was one of the unlucky ones who came back from Kernville last weekend without Citra bottles, but had my fill of it with 2 days of It including Deep River. But happy that I got and getting my Citra fix between the 2 amazing brewery's. Hope to see CitraHolic at BWLB more often. Yearly?

@dcgunman - Better than the last batch? I found it to be underwhelming last time.

I too was underwhelmed with the last batch, don't know exactly why but for some reason it didn't live up to the greatness of the previous release, I trust David's, ( dcgunman) palette so I am inclined to go fill up on his review. It can be ethereal when its on and I just love Julians beers anyway.

    Cheers,
