Not a convincing collection of beers, most of them are available at half-decent Getränkemärkte. Look out for the Kalea Adventskalender in the following weeks instead, it was available at REWE in the last years. What I learned: it starts at about € 40, if you wait until early/mid-December, the price will drop to about € 20.

I'm having Riegele Augsburger Herren Pils again and figured I'd provide some feedback for this thread as well. It delivers the same quality and taste as the first time around, it truly is a fine pilsner beer in my book. It's hop aromatic combined with a solid bitterness and it has a slight breadiness despite its dryness. This is a beer I can see myself buying over and over, especially since I've recently moved and Bitburger and Jever is no longer on the shelf at my local monopoly store. This is a nice replacement for those two.

I enjoyed their Kellerbier, if you ever happen to see that one. And towards the end of my time in Deutschland I found a spot that sold Riegele's "Craft" stuff. Only had one but it wasn't bad. Meant to go back and try more but ran out of time.

I'm just enjoying a Schneider Aventinus I brought up from the cellar today. I don't know exactly when I put it there, must have been early this year, maybe February. It has a best before date in about seven weeks. It's hard to compare it to a "fresh" Aventinus you drink right after buying and I haven't had an Aventinus for quite some time. But the taste is magnificent. Everything seems sharper, every taste is more clearly distinguishable instead of blending into one another. Prunes, cherries, and most of all a kind of wooden taste as if it were aged in a wooden barrel. Very, very nice.
I still have a Faust Doppelbock down there I put there the same day. Can't wait to try this soon.

Well I wish you luck but someone here (sorry, forget who!) posted about a "Miltenberger" Dopplebock that they found in the US that was suffering negative effects of aging.

Pics to follow....but I think you can imagine...

I just picked up a 50L keg of WELTENBURGER HEFEWEZEN hell and it's finally chilled in my kegerator and pouring like a champ. All I can say is this beer is quite the excellent version of a traditional hefeweizen, especially if you like banana esters. My neighbors and normal hop-head beer dork buddies have found a new love, a new session beer. All of the specs are spot-on - look, feel, aroma, taste, overall - it's hard for me to comprehend any less "love" for this brew on reviews. It is very close to Andechs hefeweizen hell in almost all categories.

Weltenburger is being brewed at Bischofshof in Regensburg, which is probably the same beer, but this is truly an excellent example of the style. Highly recommended, if you didn't notice.

PS - what's the word on Bischofshof locally @Stahlsturm ?

It was very, very good! I had it last weekend. The night before I had a "regular" Faust Doppelbock from this year's season and it was outstanding as well. To be honest, I didn't really notice any huge difference, the aged version (best before Oct. 1, 2014, so it was about 7 weeks after that date) had a more "sherry & port" kind of taste. But after drinking these two last week, I was reassured that Faust Doppelbock is the best Doppelbock I know of. It's a proper 5/5 beer if you like a good Doppelbock. It's kind of dangerous as well, because you just don't notice the 7 % ABV at all.

But the time is nearing for Schlenkerla Eiche now, I guess I'll place my order this week. I'm curious about this one, haven't had it before.

My Weltenburger Weißbier helles with currywurst and pommes rot/weiß tonight. My wife is working until tomorrow morning, hence the extra zweibel. Lipitor and Beano not included.

I thought this video was rather interesting, it's a compilation of an advertisement film for a brewery named Humbser from 1910, combined with some footage from the 30s of barley and hops growing. It contains some nice footage so I thought I'd post it here.

My 20-box of Eiche arrived today! As winter seems to be starting now, this is the right time. Will be reporting back.

Ah - we've been blanketed in a thick gray layer of choking fog for the last 3 days straight here around Stuttgart. Perfect weather for Eiche.
