Since we know how much youbrewidrink loves talking about fiction and make believe, I'll continue the rumors with a question. How much does it cost for a brewery to get label and/or distribution approval in the state of CT? Serious question, I don't know. If it's significant, why would they go through the process if they weren't going to distribute here? Honestly, I could care less if they do or not, it's all just beer talk, fact or fiction, that's what beer forums are for.

I was curious and looked into it. If I read the form right its $15 if manufactured in CT.

Not sure why you're bashing on him. He's a very knowledgeable and giving member of the craft beer community, specifically VT. Much more so than others mentioned in this thread.

And for what it's worth, and I'm pretty sure I'm wrong, but I thought I heard many moons ago it cost $75 for each label for out of state beers. Not sure if this would count since it's manufactured here, but from an out of state company.

Two things- One: I'm not bashing anyone. It's called internet banter. He basically called this whole thread a joke because nothing's based on fact. So I poked fun. Geez- Take your skirts off people.

And two, If it's $75 (or $15 as someone else said) for label approval, then Lawson's might have just thrown it in to the state for the heck of it in case someday they want to sell it in CT. If it's thousands of dollars (I think I remember hearing that one time that it's a couple grand to get a beer into CT (DISCLAIMER: I might have heard this from my third cousins' sister), then I would think that they wouldn't get the label approved just for fun. That's where I'm going with the question.

SoS is already brewed in CT, so it's probably cheaper to distribute within state than to import into the state. That might be Lawson's reasoning for distributing in CT versus another nearby state. It might even be more expensive for him to import it back into VT than to sell it in CT. - just speculation

Regarding $75 vs. thousands, could it be that getting label approved is cheap, but actually getting a license to distribute in CT is expensive. Every new beer by every brewer needs approval, even from brewers already distributing in CT. Also, until Lawsons gets a license to distribute, the label approval means nothing.

Does Lawson need a CT license to distribute, if SoS is brewed and distributed by Two Roads? The COLA is filed under CT and Two Roads, so I'd imagine Two Roads is already licensed to distribute SoS.

good question... not 100% either way. CT's liquor laws are strange, so nothing would surprise me as to whether or not a Lawsons beer can be distributed in CT, just because it is brewed by 2Roads.

Seems a bit off that you can be dismissive over one persons contributions and then be critical over someone essentially doing the same. FWIW, @CraftBeerguy and @youbrewidrink both seem to be good people and fairly well informed in their local beer scenes. Anyways, this thread has pretty much gone to shit - too many rumors not enough beers. Let's just wait and see if it comes out in CT, and if not, enjoy it when you're in VT. Simple as that.

Ha, so THAT'S why he's laughing his ass off about this topic! I'm still curious about the general distribution license cost question though.

Yeah, I didn't really wanna blow up his spot, but what's done is done at this point, and some of my points may make at least a little more sense.

I am also curious into the pricing of each label, and distro pricing etc.

Until the man ( Sean Lawson ) speaks and says it's so it all makes for great speculation IMO. As long as it makes for more Sip of Sunshine being available I really don't care where it get's distributed too. It's great beer and being able to get more than 3 bottles at a time would be great.

Total speculation, but my guess is that if it is indeed distributed in CT, it will not affect inventory allocated for VT. This beer uses a redic amount of hops, maybe TR is allocating hops from their hop contracts to allow for additional beer to be brewed for CT distro. Gotta use that capacity somehow. Just thinking out loud...
