Anchorage Brewing A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL

Just had the 1st batch (Jan 2013, not bottled) on draft tonight - time has been fantastic to this beer. I had this batch fresh, at 1 year, and tonight at almost 2 years. It started amazing and just continues to improve. Sweet, viscous, and you would never guess it was over 8%, never mind 17%+. If you get one, convince your buddy to share his right away and save yours.

You're right - Darkest Hour 1 was aged both in rye whiskey and pinot noir barrels but to my palate the pinot barrels became more dominant over time - so it's tough for me to think of whiskey barrel aspect of this beer. Batch 2 is still very hot (in a good way) and straight whisky. I drank it at room temp while grilling outdoors in the low 20's. It was steaming like a hot mug of tea and that steam was not water based.

Anchorage is distributed by Shelton Brothers which pulled out of Minnesota several years ago. Hopefully western Wisconsin gets some because I'd love to try this one.

 

So was this already released?

 

I think that goes for pretty much everything that Anchorage produces.

 

talked to the guys at Anchorage today and they said its been distributed already and should hit shelves as early as tomorrow night locally, however i called Gold rush and they said it won't be on the shelves until wednesday.

Just hit the shelves in Anchorage today. Seems like plenty to go around unlike last year. Bottle caps - not corked & caged - $31 - limit of 6 at the 1 store I went to. Sadly, I didn't limit out.

Congratulations! At $31 per bottle limiting out would be pricey. I might have done it, but that's only because I live in Ohio
