I'm with this guy. I have had Sculpin on tap and several times in bottles and I never cared for it. When I was in Cali this summer I got a maybe two week old 6er and it was the only time I've ever enjoyed it. Maybe it doesn't travel well.

Sculpin falls to shit faster than any other IPA I've ever had.

I agree with this. 15 days seems a bit overboard but it does fall hard and fast. Fresh, (under a month for me) and in cans, it's the tits.

I'm just happy that draft Sculpin is getting easier to find in the LA area. I don't usually buy it in bottles or cans(?), though.

For me, what is up with Sculpin is that it simply isn't that great, way overpriced, and seldom fresh. If it were 9.99 a sixer and only had a week or two on it, I'd say it'd be a toss up between that and regular Stone IPA. I never really understood what people see in this beer, but I'm fine with that.

EDIT: the Grapefruit is pretty good

Is there a specific time on Day 15 that it turns?

Is it as the clock strikes Midnight between Day 14 and Day 15? Or maybe at sunrise?

Also, what time zone should I be using for reference? Pacific, where the beer was produced? Or the time zone where it was purchased/consumed?

In seriousness: you realize that you're getting crap, not for believing Sculpin' falls off quickly (an opinion with which there seems to be a fair amount of agreement), but for identifying an exact day for said fall off, right?

Yes, but see, I DUN CARE if I get crap for it. It's been my experience. I drink Sculpin on evening of day 14 - fine..cut to evening of day 15 - different beer. Its happened to me a bunch of times. For all I know, little beer elves come and take a dump in it while I'm sleeping. * shrug * I have no explanation for you. If others think it great for 4 months then im happy for them.

What can I say. LOVE it fresh. Got some last week 3 months old. Didn't figure the julian date right. Also bought some Terrapin Hi 5. The Hi 5 was as tropical as the 3 month old Sculpin, Imo. $6 dollars cheaper I might add. It does drop off quick, but fresh, it's worth the $.

Am I the only one that thinks Sculpin tastes almost identical to Stone IPA?

Both great beers - same style, but nowhere near the same flavor. Just do a side-by-side some time.

That's the price for freight cross country.

They're really really different. Stone IPA is a complete pine bomb while Sculpin is a citrus/tropical fruit bomb.

I don't even see Stone for $9.99 anymore. I rarely see beers under $10/sixer these days. Pizza Port and Uinta are some of the only ones.

Last I checked, you could get a 24 pack of Stone IPA at Costco here in SoCal for about $26 - that's the best deal I can recall seeing. Occasionally, Sprouts will have 6 packs for around $7-8, too

Costco always has good deals. Sculpin is definitely the better beer though.

Yeah, like it doesn't have enough grapefruit pith bitterness already, so let's add some actual grapefruit peel.

I liked the Grapefruit one, but honestly it didn't make it any better.

I used to love it, but don't think much of it anymore. I personally think Big Eye is superior.

How long ago did you try it when it was good? Palate may have changed.
