My Pop-pop (who was from Italy) drank wine and Sambuca. On the few occasions he drank beer, he would drink Peroni

Great Grandfather worked at Pabst so PBR was always in the fridge.

Depressing thread, but here goes: my grandfather on my dad's side was an alcoholic and I'm pretty sure he drank hard liquor. My grandfather on my mom's side didn't drink that I know of, he died before I knew him.

My "grandpa" drank coors original when he had a beer. I also saw him with a cocktail from time to time, but not very often. He was one of those people who had one or two and that was it. His brother was a mean whiskey drunk from what I hear though. I never met him.

An interesting aside; I do remember my grandfather telling me stories about being a messenger for the local sheriff during prohibition. One of his jobs was to go and warn the bootleggers when a raid was about to happen so they could clear out beforehand. You know that shit's gotta be true too!

No grandfathers for me to remember, but my Uncle owned a restaurant with a liquor license. I never ever recall seeing him without a Budweiser in his hands or near him. And, I was around him a lot.

Don't know about paternal side, but I remember that Mom always took the beer out of the fridge and put it on top of the fridge when her Dad was coming over. Mother and family came over from Lithuania at the end of WWII. I remember him always letting me have a sip of his beer despite the scolding from my mother. Grandpa didn't speak English very well. Miller High Life and Narragansett were the beers I remember him drinking. Mom drank Miller too when not drinking vodka and cranberry juice (just to color).

My German great grandfather brewed his own beer on the farm in Missouri. I have no idea the type of beer, I guess it was a farmhouse ale, wild yeast.

My Grandfather was always drinking a 'Gansett. I remember the pull tabs that came right off; he would put it right back into the can. Always thought he might swallow it by accident; nerve wracking.

My father's dad died when I was three, so I don't know what he drank, but my other grandfather (from Wyoming, PA) drank nothing but Genesee with a shake or two of salt. I used to do the same with the cheap beer we drank in college, it certainly helped. Thanks, Grandpa!

If he had his ideal situation it was a six pack of Genesee Cream Ale in cans, bought cold but left to get room temperature on the counter, poured into a glass with a generous pinch of salt in each glass. Six pack was gone in a sitting.

Texans all, they drank Lone Star and Pearl, at home, while driving, and at ice houses, days and evenings, at outdoor tables set beside huge piles of bottle caps of the same.

Distinctly Texan, this Mexican-German-Tejano-Anglo tradition, when I think about it, still evokes the actual smells of these lagers, and memories of their energetic speech and laughter, the sounds of me stepping on these bottlecaps; Actually made the hot Texas summers enjoyable.

Neither of my grandfathers drank when I knew them. My paternal grandfather was a minister so abstinence went with his denomination. My maternal grandfather may have been a whiskey drinker in his younger years from what I hear, but was a tea-totaler when I knew him.

My dad, however, was a die hard Old Milwaukee drinker. Never saw him drink anything else.

Interesting question, but unfortunately, I don't know the answer. My maternal grandfather died before I was born, and my paternal grandfather died when I was very young. My parents never mentioned my grandfathers' drinking habits, so I have no clue.
