I can't think of a single beer that has 30,000 bottles (even brewery only) that trades for even half of what Prop seems to. It is bat crap crazy. Am I alone on this? Is there a similar count bottle made in the USA less than $50/bottle that rivals this?

Lately you see low bottle counts, brewery only, short supply, hype bombs.
It's refreshing to see a beer once a year trade based on how it actually tastes.

to be honest - I think it's nice to see. the idea that beer trades much more on rarity than how it actually tastes is what's upside down to me

the idea that I should need to trade a case of BCBS (rAvg 4.59) for something like 1x Assassin (rAVG 4.63) is crazy

Trading is almost never based on taste as the #1 factor. If it were you would be trading a prop $4$ for beers like Heady and KBS. Bottle count and brewery reputation count for more than beer taste.

I trade based on taste as my primary driver, then rarity. which is why i don't quite understand trade values on some beers (art). I honestly think is prop didn't have the bourbon county name behind it, it wouldn't trade half as high. The rarity isn't there and it's good but not amazing by any means.

BCBS is the most across the board anticipated brew release every year. Why? Established taste consistency. They've been barreling this brew forever. It is the standard by which barrel aging is measured. Furthermore, historically their variants have been the shizz. Then there's Chicago only. You're right if it wasn't BCBS Prop it wouldn't trade as high- BUT it is.

I whole heartedly disagree. BCBS is my fav BA beer of all time. Forget all the super hyped super rare beers I have had. Everytime I drink the new "best BA stout ever", it ends up getting compared to BCBS. Sometimes it is as good or occasionally slightly better due to additives like vanilla, cinnamon, peppers, etc, but that is apples to oranges, and is never worth the crazy amount needed to trade for it. Now, when the variations come out they are second to none. If they made a variation with chili's, cinnamon and Vanilla, I guarantee it would be as good or better than BA Hunah or BA Abraxas.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing you haven't had DB huna yet.

some people never get that this stuff is subjective. given how much I dislike spiced beer (I did not like Huna) I would rather have 1x BCBS 2014 than 1 DB Huna

I have, and didn't mention DB because I doubt GI will ever use Apple Brandy or Rum barrels for their beer. If they did....yes I think GI's would be better.

You are right. Sometimes I do forget because there are lambics and sour beers that I just can't appreciate the subtleties of. While others say they are the best on the planet.

Calm down guys. You both wildly missed my point and made several assumptions. Never in my post did i say bcbs isn't an established amazing beer. I buy it every year and love all the variants. I was just saying that it shouldn't trade as high because of how many bottles of it get made. If another brewery released this beer and it tasted the same it wouldn't trade as high. Nothing wrong with the beer at all, it's great.

Also, i would love it if bc did a pepper vanilla chocolate blah blah blah. It'd be amazing.

This was my point in the thread. There is no beer I know of, even world class tasting ones, that trade as high as prop with 30,000 bottles made. People are already downplaying Kuhnhenn KRE due to a 3 case limit but there are only 3,000 of those total, just as an example.

Exactly. It really should go 1:1 with darkness of there are really 30,000 bottles made.

No dude. You missed the point as you forgot desirability. I'm not saying it's not Chicago-inflated, but bro it's desirability is off the charts.

And darkness or whatever else, simply is not.

Someone from Illinois should know this what was last year's Prop yield 30,000 ?

But the only reason it has the desirability is because of the bourbon county name. That's what is being discussed here. Other beers (that are better) and have the same or lower bottle counts don't trade as high. And by saying darkness isn't desired then you must not watch the trade forums in october.

Yea it has the bourbon county name. Exactly. It's renowned, and appreciated, and historically really really good. Darkness, pah-leese, it's desired at a much much lower tick. It was given to me as an extra. Prop is rare to never given as an extra. C'mon man, there aren't (pre)trades for darkness, been around lately? Yea. Exactly.
