That's exactly right! Assuming the Kunigundendamm is the road along the Regnitz on the Mahr's/Kessmann side.

I wonder if what I had in 2008 was an outlier. It was incredibly hoppy and dry, to the point of being unbalanced. It seemed at the time quite hoppier than when I had a previously...new hop crop? This was closer to how I recall it in the past.

And don't get me wrong, it is still an incredible beer. I made the long walk there 3 of the days I was in Bamberg!

Never had a Keesmann pils that I would describe as incredibly hoppy to the point of being unbalanced. I did, however, remark about how dry many Bamberg beers are after returning following a fairly extended break. Still, a buddy of mine played on the Keesmann badminton team, and he used to always have cases of the stuff in his basement. Always struck me as herb (certainly the most hoppy of Bamberg's pilsners, but not as herb as, say, Jever) and quite balanced.

Yep, thats the road. Of the dozen or so apartments I lived in in Bamberg, the last one was on Egelseestrasse, over by Mahr's and Keesmann. Used to walk the Kunigundendamm every day. Plus my wife, a German attorney, worked in the Justizgebaeude for a time. There used to be a tiny pizzeria in that complex, Pizzeria Justiz, that was really cheap and served St Georgenbrau Kellerbier on tap. Spent many a Sunday there....

Having St. Georgenbrau Kellerbier is on my must do list for my next visit. Hopefully at the Brauerei.

Try and make it to the Keller if you can. Beautiful place (hat-tip to Ron P for the images)

Forgive my ignorance, but what would a Schnitt be?

A Schnitt is a beer that is between half and 3/4 full. You pay around half price for it and must fulfill the following requirements: (1) You must have ordered at least one full beer before you order a Schnitt and (2) the Schnitt must be the final beer you order.

@herrburgess is right. Just to deepen the description, it's one draw on the tap, no topping off or waiting for foam to subside.

Note: you can only get a Schnitt in Bayern or Baden Würrtemberg. The remainder of Germany will stare at you in (negative) wonderment.

The same thing exists for wine here. A regular "Schoppen" usually is filled to the rim of the glass, probably about 0.25l. Depending on the glass it might even be more. If you order a "Piffche", it means "half a glass of wine", but in reality you'll end up with a proper 0.2l-glass.

Eleven or so years ago, when I was just starting FranconiaBeerGuide.com I wrote a few articles sort of as filler. I came across a mention of the Bierkrieg somewhere and mentioned it here (at the bottom) with a few details.

Enjoyed reading this about Germany (my favorite county), and especially the Germans chiming in with translations. Made Oktoberfest this last year (what a zoo) too crowded, and planning on going again next year except for the Munich part.

This is a great forum. There's a small group that hangs out here and everyone is helpful and respectful. It's hard to believe it's still on BA.

There are a lot of good threads here.

I enjoy all of these threads and they're great for trip insight. I'll be in Bamberg for 3 nights in June. Thx.
