Hoping they're successful and really, really creative. I like the newbies that have opened in-state over the last year or two but do not have a personal fav that knocks my proverbial socks off.

    Don't hold your breath:

"Powder Hollow Brewery will be open Nov. 23 at noon and will feature five brews: a west coast style IPA, an oatmeal stout, a dry stout, an amber ale and a blonde ale."

Personally, I don't care about creative, I care about quality.

Yep, quality is very important. Several Brewers in CT are creative as hell. They should be focusing their energy elsewhere imo...

It goes without saying quality is important too.

Hopefully its decent. CT doesnt need another mediocre brewery.

Not even a little bit? I mean, quality comes first of course and wacky ideas do not automatically make a good beer...but with so many of these places popping open over the past couple years especially, I definitely appreciate when they at least try to do some unique stuff to separate themselves.

Being creative doesn't mean sticking an umbrella in my glass or pouring cinammon in my brew, it means finding ways to brew beers that have unique flavors that enhance whatever style your trying to brew. Using difficult to find hops or using different varietals along with excellent malts, that sort of thing. I'm not dissing the CT breweries. I'm excited about their success and wish them well.

Yes, of course, we all want something a little creative once in a while too. But I'd still rather have a well made brown ale than a mediocre Darjeeling-tea-infused-rum-barrel-aged-stout.

Speaking of new breweries and creativeness... Kent Falls Brewing Company is due to open soon. Their focus will be more of a "farmhouse" style of brewery, intent on using locally sourced ingredients (they have their own hop farm...). Hell, they're even going to have a 100% CT beer, if you can believe that. They'll have a different saison every season, a brett IPA, beers like that. No Blond Ale and Brown Ale line-up for them. That's the kind of creativeness I can get excited about. As long as it's good!

I've been reading their blog posts here....

given your 3 quick beer ratings, looks like there's much room for improvement

Holy crap, I almost never rate beers that low... If I did, they would be poured down the sink...

I honestly wanted to like it...but I sampled everything they had on tap this Tuesday and I genuinely didn't like any of them. Here's hoping they get better. I only rated a couple of them but tried 7 I believe...all were very undercarbed and just not anything remotely special. Cool little place though actually...hell, maybe i'm just spoiled by Tree House and Vermont beers and my bar is too high. I'll give them at least one more chance a couple months down the road probably.

Sounds like you gave them a fair shake. I will still give them a visit in the near future.

shame it's not better. Hopefully they'll get things headed in a more positive direction with future batches. They better get going quick though or beer hunters will write them off on first visit and not go back.

tell me about it! My wife always asks whats in my glass. A few days ago when she asked I said "just a Celebration". She said "aw, why sound so disappointed?" and I had to confess, as good as Celebration is, I was looking for something juicy and fruity. I fear my palate has been forever ruined by my weekly trips to Monson.

Anyone else had a chance to check this place out? Heard the facility is great but the beer is anything but! From 2 different people I've hear them say the beer taste "smokey" and like "I'm eating charcoal" that's 2 people that went weeks apart from each other and didn't know the other said that. I'm no expert in beer making does have anything to do with the fact they have plastic fermenters instead of metal?

To bad either way. I was really hoping for a good brewery 10 min from my house. I'll still give them my fair shake one of these days. Just looking for someone else's opinion
