Smoked lagers are the light of my life. Are you surprised at my tears, sir?

+1 for ST, can't say the same for Heavy Seas(besides loose cannon).

This is though, you could have all knowledge you want and the most refined palate ever. You still:
    1. Cannot be an authority on beer you have not had.
    2. Count as only one person when it comes to rAvg of a beer.

Is this what ST is changing the name of Creme Brulee to?

As others have pointed out, these are two breweries that have pretty widely available and often mediocre product. There are a couple of good ST beers, but most are two sweet, and I don't think I've had anything from Heavy Seas that I'd call better than decent.

I think it may be the entire Black water series changing to the Diabeetus series

I've done multiple trades sending ST BlackWater series beers to Cali, in return for mas Pliny....

Oregon and Washington both receive Southern Tier. So you're really not likely to see them traded because of their large footprint.

They're relatively cheap and readily available. If you're trading with someone outside of their distribution area, toss some in the box as extras. If they are a hit, maybe a 2nd trade is in order.

I love almost all of Southern Tiers brews. Heavy Sea's makes some fantastic stuff as well.

Heavy Seas is good but doesn't blow me away. The Greater Pumpkin is the only one that stands out for me.

Southern Tier is also good, but again Choklat is the only one that stands out for me.

It is totally normal for beers with little hype not to be seen in the ISO forum. There are lots of great beers that aren't hyped and highly sought after. That doesn't mean they aren't worth trying, but this forum is the way it is. There are brewers who make better beers (in my opinion) than ST or HS that aren't often seen in the ISO forum.

The real answer: neither makes very good beers. Another answer: each brewery's beers are available on the shelf all over the eastern half of the country. Neither really does limited releases. Those are factors as well, but mostly I would just say that ST makes sickly-sweet messes and Heavy Seas is never good, never really bad, just always a bit above average.

Speaking of southern tier, oak aged back burner is damn good.

You don't see them in the trade forumns for the same reason you don't see much Stone or Lagunitas.
If your state doesn't get them, you probably have a buddy or 2 a couple states over that do.
