Whenever this beer is mentioned I find it necessary to give my acquiescence; a remarkable beer worthy of seeking out. I personally love the atmosphere at Upright too, and, as has been mentioned, the prices are great.[/quote]

Just as an "oh by the way." The Engelberg pils is, I believe, the Grain & Gristle house beer. A pint of the pils there goes for $4 (or, I believe, you can get a 12 ounce glass for $3, or an 8 ounce glass for $2). The beer is an excellent accompanyment to a lot of the food at G & G, and not a bad way to finish up an evening of pok pok fish sauce wings either. Again, nothing against visiting the Upright tasting room, but the G & G typically has 3 or 4 Upright beers on tap as well (they had the offenweisse, bock and gose on last night, along with the pils), and their food isn't half bad either. Just my two cents...

mmm Pok Pok and whiskey soda, such an impressive bourbon list there!

has nobody else been to Roscoes? I never hear that place mentioned or any comments when I mention it.
Very nice tap list, good southern food and awesome sushi next door, which you can order from Roscoes (same owner). Great beer and sushi together!

I think a lot of Portland folks dig Roscoes. I don't think it gets mentioned because it's not totally practical for a lot of people's itineraries. It's kind of way out there, and doesn't quite fit in for many pub crawls. So when someone is visiting and has to be selective, Roscoes gets the chop. If it were closer to downtown, I'm sure it would be recommended all the time.

Pok Pok is so overhyped, crowded and average. Must have mustache to enter...

Upright Pils is solid. Agree it's worth a try.

Roscoe's had Pliny the Younger this year didn't it!?

Disagree about those wings being overhyped or average. Crowded on the other hand, yep, it's absolutely absurd.

ugh... those fish wings are worth the hype. I entered with no mustache.

If you want to stick around the 'Golden Area' for brews, Green Dragon, Cascade Barrel House, HotD, Perhaps Hopworks original Powell spot, Lompoc Brewing, Gigantic... many places right around the same area and are quick and easy to get to... including the Guild Pub, and Eastburn. The Commons only usually has their taproom open for a brief few hours on Friday and Saturday evenings. Belmont Station is in the area somewhat and is probably the best taproom and bottleshop you will find in the area.
