Damn. Drove by the line around 7:45 and if figured we were shut out. Counted 48 or so in line. GI def put screws to mom n pop places and rewarded Binnys.

~that's the sentiment i got after speaking to a small shop owner in the past. this was regarding i think KBS or some firestone release. he was telling me to even get any KBS etc from the distributor he has to order a TON of the year round beers, and he just can't do sit on dozens of cases of All Day IPS just to get ONE case of KBS..when he does get something in, he makes you buy one other item preferably from the same brewery.

I was at O'tooles earlier (1pm) and all they had left was barleywine and regular. Vanilla blew right before I got there

Some mom and pop stores are still getting deliviries this week. So we don't know how bad they have been screwed yet.

But furthermore, this is a business. Why would the expectation be that small shops that don't sell as much regular goose product get all the super hyped BCBS?

It makes pretty good business sense to give the rare product to the companies that sell the most of your product year round. Does this suck for small mom and pop craft shops, yes, but that is the nature of the business.

This, I agree. I also got lucky at a big box so am biased. However part of me enjoys hearing my year around mom and popshops bitch that they got screwed after they were the same ones gouging us for $10/ bottle or worse last year.

Agreed. The plus side to big box stores is fairly consistent pricing around msrp.

Some mom and pop stores had decent pricing and I feel bad they got screwed. But most of them are only pissed off this year because they can't sell these bombers and 4 packs at $50 a piece.

What's the distributor gonna say when and event like this might take away a part of the bcbs for an event like this from them. Oh we don't want to distribute you or the rest of your massive amounts of other beer. Bc is such a small part of the overall portfolio. This would only help drive the hype machine. Apparently everyone thinks dark lord is horrible yet dark lord day rules and makes that beer more hype driven. Face it, it's the hype they want. That will really drive their sales when they double the amount of beer they'll make over the next five years. Without the hype they won't be able to demand the price they're selling it for with that amount of output.

    Agreed

It was unbelievable how much Goose and Binnys hyped it up. I'd love to know the number of total social media posts by just those two in reference to BCBS and/or Black Friday. It was like daily and hourly countdowns

It seems to me that they want to make it feel like a brewery only release. Even Brett Porter was quoted saying he loves to see people waiting 17 hours for it

Plus, it seems like they sent a SHIT TON of boxes with each variant in then to anyone who has a new article, blog, or hell just has a following on social media. I saw so many "reviews" of these beers this year, that all had the same description about how Bourbon County is the first and best BA beer in the world (I will partially agree to the ladder), and how people will wait hours and hours just to try it. This is AB marketing at its finest.

As for the Distributor aspect that someone else brought up, AB owns their own distribution, so they won't care. They get the money whether it is sold at the source or through distro, they just won't get to double dip on profits

so what you are saying is fuk Binnys. After all the one within four miles of my house tells me at 9:08 that they already sold out because of the fairly sized crowd showing up an hour or two be before.

Nice, glad you and your hype machine made it a whole 4-5 minutes before selling out. You guys did great. Glad to shop elsewhere from now.

Despite the disappointment on the variants I was really happy that the line started early, and BCS was only $25. I went down to frat pour and tried them all on draft. Just my opinion, but I did not think this years prop was very good.

Just a little refresher on why Goose Island will not be able to self-distribute at an event on their property (unless it is handled ala Darkness Day where a distributor is on site to handle all of the sales).

    Illinois
    License to self-distribute: Yes

    235 ILCS 5/5-1; 235 ILCS 5/3-12

Class 10. A craft brewer's license, which may only be issued to a licensed brewer or licensed non-resident dealer, shall allow the manufacture of up to 465,000 gallons of beer per year. A craft brewer licensee may make sales and deliveries to importing distributors and distributors and to retail licensees in accordance with the conditions set forth in paragraph (18) of subsection (a) of Section 3-12 of this Act [235 ILCS 5/3-12]: 18 (A) A craft brewer licensee, who must also be either a licensed brewer or licensed non-resident dealer and annually manufacture less than 465,000 gallons of beer, may make application to the Commission for a self-distribution exemption to allow the sale of not more than 232,500 gallons of the exemption holder's beer to retail licensees per year.
