    Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but here we go. I am fairly new to this site and trading in general. I am sure you all remember that time when you were a noob and were confused about all the acronyms people use to post about their beer. It can get pretty confusing. I thought I would make a list that contains a list of most popular acronyms people use in order to help each other out. In addition I placed slots for rarity, price, availability, and known trades. I was hoping everyone could pitch in and help create a nice list. I feel this would help us all know what things trade for and help people in need of deciphering these sometimes incomprehensible codes. Thanks hope this works out well!

Cool idea, I hope people contribute because it could become a helpful tool. My only suggestion would be to add an optional column for bottle count.

Good idea. I'll add that in. I am hoping people do take this serious. Alreaady had people try to troll. Hoping there are enough people to police this and wash out the trolls.

One other thing... but I don't have a solution off the top of my head... expanding the rarity classifications would be good. For instance, Grey Monday is listed on there as "Rare", which I feel is appropriate. So also putting down BCBS down as "rare" seems misleading. Although not really a shelf beer, it's not at the same level as GM. Maybe a number scale of some sort, or letters? Maybe someone else can come up with something better.

That's a pretty good concern I had not thought about. I am hoping the bottle count will help with that, but it is something to be addressed. Maybe do semi-rare, rare, very rare? Thanks for your input!

I think the "rarity" column should be reframed in the lines of shelf vs limited release. This in addition to bottle count and availability should be sufficient. As this is intended to be a starting point for people, it'll still be the individual's prerogative to ask questions, do a forum search, etc. for more information on a specific beer beyond what's on the spreadsheet.

Thanks for the input. I think simply have it shelf v limited release makes things more confusing. As another user brought up, having black Tuesday and bcbs both labeled as rare and limited availability will lead some to think they can get a BT for BCBS. Since not all beers have to a bottle count known (from what I know). Have this qualitative rarity will help a bit. Thanks!

The problem is that rarity is very subjective and area-dependent, so in many cases it's likely to be misleading. I would suggest sticking with objective values, such as the release frequency and legitimate distribution footprint for a beer. That way it will be clearer what to put into the list and clearer how to interpret what's there.

In my (short) searching I found no sticky or FAQ, so I figure make a post of the most commonly used abbreviations used for breweries/beers in the forums:

PtE/PtY (Pliny the Elder/Pliny the Younger = Russian River)
BCBS (Bourbon County Stout - Goose Island)
GBS (Gingerbread Stout... usually Hardywood in Richmond VA is implied)

Feel free to add... I have a lot to learn... (and I am now reminded of the humor that the post acronym is TAP)
