Forgive me if this is not the right place to post.

Me and a few buddies are going to Hill Farmstead on a Saturday morning. We are from southern Massachusetts and are looking to make a day of it, and stay overnight somewhere. What do you suggest in around VT, NH or near Boston that makes the best use of our time? We were thinking of staying the night in waterbury

I would say Waterbury is a good choice but might lean towards the Burlington area as Fiddlehead is releasing Second Fiddle on Saturday and it would be worth the trip to Shelburne if you had the time on Saturday. The beer selection on tap is usually better in Waterbury IMO.

I recently made this trip myself. Waterbury is a great idea. Spend the day at HF and then drive over to Waterbury and stay at the Best Western or the Stagecoach inn located in the center of town. I've stayed at both and you can't beat the location of the Stagecoach plus the breakfast is pretty fantastic. Best Western is good too but the walk to downtown is a little more challenging, but doable. Bring a flashlight :-).

There are 3 bars in downtown Waterbury that serve up great beer and food. I really like the food at Prohibition Pig, the duck fat fries are great. The Reservoir has good food and, I think, the best beer list. Blackback is also in the center of town. There is also a craft beer cellar in downtown Waterbury.

On your way home stop into Montpellier and check out Hunger Mountain Coop or some of the bars located in town. It's a great way to spend a weekend.

Everything JakerLou said. Also, it should go without saying that if you're leaving HF around lunchtime, Parker Pie ~20 minutes away in West Glover is a must. The Green Mountain Special is as good as the legends say.

Lost Nation is also a short drive from Waterbury on the way to HF and worth a stop for the beer and food.

I'll piggyback on this thread rather than creating another. I am doing a similar trip, but earlier in the week (Wed-Fri). We're staying in Montpelier, but will spend a fair amount of time in Waterbury as well.

Heady question - Is the line pretty bad at Hunger Mtn on Thursdays? Just wondering when I should think about heading over. Don't want to stand in line forever, but I also want to ensure I get a case. Also interested in any other locations I should think about hitting on Wed or Thurs for bottles/cans. We are doing HF early on Thursday.

Don't forget about Three Penny while in Montpelier.

The line will go quick. Besides Warren, at 9am there isn't going to be anything else beer related that's open. If you hate lines too don't go to HF when they first open. That is usually the worst time to go,

Hey Joe. We traded a couple times earlier this year. Three Penny is one of the main reasons I am staying in Montpelier. Love that place. And its walking distance to Capitol Plaza, where I get a good corporate rate.
I keep hearing that about HF. I guess I have just been lucky in the past. Been there 3 times at open and only encountered a line once.

I've never had a problem getting a case of Heady at Hunger Mt as long as I was there by 8:30. Then you have time to get to the Warren Store by about 10:00 for the Lawson delivery.

in addition to th pubs in waterbury and the 3 penny -- you must add the worthy burger in south royalton to your list of must visits. hit it on the way up or back from Waterbury. amazing burgers made over a wood fired grill and tap list is steller - usually have one or two HF beers on tap.

People complain about these repetitive "VT Beer Odyssey" threads, but I love the reminder of all the great places visited on once and future trips. Never gets old.

Could go for an Edward & a Worthy Burger or Parker Pie right about now, certainly.

Is this the case every Saturday? I had given up hope on getting Lawson's finest, but it would be cool to snag some.

smanson56 was responding to DonD on his mid-week trip, which would be compatible with the Thursday Lawson's delivery at the Warren Store.

At least the last few times I've been up, there seemed to be a fair amount of Sip of Sunshine rattling around. Not sure if that's still the case, but it's worth poking your head into Hunger Mountain just in case. Not that it isn't always worth it, anyway.

The Waterbury bars have a Lawson's or two on essentially all the time, too.

Not since the Sabbeerical started. Sip of Sunshine and that's it.
