What one did you call, I got the same answer. Maybe I'll call the others.

Thanks for sharing these details. Based on the numbers mentioned, is it accurate that the crowd at midnight purchased ~30-35 cases of variants (leaving about ~3 cases each for the release)? If true, rhetorically I wonder if they only left the store when they ran out patience in trying to buy all 50 cases? Shameful behavior by the lot.

Agreed, the line was such at 10:30 that whatever variants were generously left were going to get burned through by those in line so waiting until noon made little sense at that point. I thought the manager there handled the situation well and the adjusted allotment was completely fair and understanding. Unfortunately Walgreens got to see a side of the craft beer culture where some will do anything to hoard limited releases. They've got trades which depend upon this behavior it seems. Most aren't like this and we appreciate Walgreens' effort in releasing the beer given the circumstances. Cheers!

The Black Friday release (city-wide) was hilarious but its got nothing on what's posted on Craigslist right now.

I also called two yesterday. The people I talked to not only didn't know when the release was but also hadn't heard of the beer.

If you do, please post. I would love to grab 2 BW before everything's gone. Figure coffee is a long shot at this point.

I have always been curious, do people really buy that on Craigslist? It just seems like such a far stretch to pay $1000 for a case.

    I had the same thought.
$40 for a 4pack, though stupid, isn't insane. But the $50-100 per 4pack doesn't make sense by any stretch of the imagination.

I also love how there are posts of people saying they either just have extra or bought too much, some as much as too many extra cases. Did someone tell them that Bourbon County is a cash cow on the second-hand market?
Are people really buying from those posts?

Tony's finer foods just sent a FB message that lincoln ave has received their allocation. It's only reg bcbs, no variants. Other stores should have theirs by noon, according to the message. No details on limit or price.

$70 at a bar is exactly 2.5 times the retail price, in-line with paying $5 for an Anti-Hero that costs less than $2 a can at Binnys. The bar isn't going to reduce their profit margin just because AB took a price increase.

Was more or less telling people if they were desperate they can pay $70...didn't really care to get into the specifics of it but thanks.

The event at Bottles and Cans yesterday went fairly smooth, though it was crammed to hell inside the store. Didn't win anything in the raffle but at least had a chance to taste the vanilla, barleywine, and a 2013 regular. Honestly don't understand the hype about the vanilla... it's a slightly sweeter version of the regular.

2010 Vanilla has something of legendary status... complete with stories of abused interns and brewers swearing to "Never do that again" because of how much a PITA vanilla beans are. So, it's hyped because they did it again anyway.

Edit: Interns weren't actually abused; it just sucked to be scraping vanilla beans for hours on end.

Having not had the original, I can't speak to how good it was (although you can always count on people saying "oh yeah, wayyyyy better than this year's" without fail), but mdomask is right. Most people seem to look at this as the 2nd coming of what was widely considered to be the best BCBS variant ever (with Rare). Personally I liked Prop much more but that's not a big surprise, either (I love coconut, and the coconut water in this year's version makes it even more coconutty than last year's).

I know this will sound bad to some, but I would pay $50 for a 4-pack if it meant I could avoid all the driving around, standing in line and arriving at stores only to find they are sold out. I won't be back in the Chicago area for a while, but if the stores aren't restocked and there are people still selling on Craigslist I'd definitely consider it.

Many people can't speak to how good it was, because they had it years after it was bottled. Vanilla fades and all that

Personally, I think Baudonia was the best BCBS variant ever. Amazing earthy chocolate flavor. But, impossible to bottle in anywhere near sufficient quantities.

highlight of the day was a small local shop selling one (single) coffee or barleywine only after you purchased an entire case (24 bottles) of 312. Madness. I had to laugh at the guy loading his trunk up with four cases of 312...

Damnit, I've been slapping myself for passing on trying Baudonia the couple times I've seen it on tap nearby. I've really enjoyed the other one-off variants, so that's probably worth tracking down sometime...
