I don't think Ninkasi had can size or package specs on her mind ... ever.

In the bay I found $8 4pk 16oz cans and $9 6pk 12oz bottles which both come out to the same price per ounce.

Yes on the cans, started seeing them a couple weeks ago. In beer stores and grocery stores. Tempted to get some of both just to see if they're any different in cans.

What a month for SN. I need to go for the trifecta. 4 pack of Torpedo cans, 4 pack of Hoptimum, 6 pack of Bigfoot.

    Let's do this.

Where in NC are you located, I'm in the Hickory area, so that may be a reason I havn't seen it yet.

My feelings towards 4 packs. I'm sorry if I offend, but here's the d eal. They don't look right. The price is wrong. Most importantly, they are difficult to hold, and bring up to the cash register. Awkward. Maybe I'm old school, but It just doesn't feel right. Sixpack is perfect for beer, and that's the way it is.

i love the fact that they are canning. this is great for camping and sailing, where I either don't like having bottles or can't have bottles. i will be buying a lot more SN just for this reason.

Many of the original 16 oz. (aka "half quart" at the time) cans came in 4-packs in the 40's/'50's.

Not sure what Ninkasi (or Gambrinus) thought about them. Weren't They were primarily draught-only drinkers?

Eh? Maybe I'm misunderstanding your statement, but:

    4 X 16 oz. cans = 64 oz.
    6 X 12 oz. cans = 72 oz.

6 pack cans would be ideal for Torpedo, but I'll take what I can get.

To counter, I feel most of the canned 4 packs are packaged quite attractively and generally find the price per ounce is extremely close, if not identical to six packs. Regarding your point about them being difficult to hold...really? In general, the plastic top that holds the cans have a tab for you to slide your finger under or there are tabs in the cardboard if the brewer boxes their cans. In either case, holding 4 cans of beer shouldn't be a problem for a grown man.

Ultimately, the best thing about the canning movement, in my opinion, is additional format choice. The ability to choose glass versus aluminum, depending on the drinking context, is advantageous for beer fans.

    16oz x 4 =64 oz

I love the cans but bad timing with Bigfoot out. I need to get my Bigfoot fix until they are gone.

But the cans are fresh and great for pouring into a nice glass or for crunching at tail gates.
