Fairly new to the site so still trying to figure out what others consider a whale....what do you consider? Unfortunately I was even in Chicago last week and couldn't land any Vanilla Rye..so it's become a whale to me

a highly desired members only release, a highly regarded brewery only release, or something next to impossible to get in the states.

You mean not 25,000 bottle count, one state distribution beer wouldn't be a whale? :grinning:

My original comment said if VR is as good as 2010 VBCBS. I haven't had the 2014, so I don't know if it compares. The point was that, to me, the 2010 version was good enough to trade for just about anything short of your "whales," and then you come in talking about rarity. I feel like you've misunderstood the point at every step. If somebody wanted 60 minute who didn't have access to it, it might be worth their while to trade VR for it. That isn't where I was going with it, though.

I got no problem with you not seeing VR as a whale. I don't either and I said it wasn't quite at the level of those you posted, but could be close. It sounds like you do well enough in your trading, so good for you. Carry on.

Thanks. Wish I would have seen this before I left the office.

2 hrs of driving and I finally found some BCBS. Now to try and find a bit of Coffee and Barleywine. My odds of winning the lottery are better.

Anyone know of a store on the Southeast/Webster area that might have some in stock?

Generally speaking, if you can buy it at Kroger? Not a whale.

If I find any in the area, I'll let you know. Distributors haven't discovered Galveston and Brazoria counties yet. Sucks to live in the area for craft beer. p.s. - I live in Pearland

Anyone seen barley wine anywhere north Houston? I must have gone to every heb and Kroger in the area and nothing. Already gave up hope for coffee.....

If I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure Coffee started appearing in Houston like 2 or 3 weeks later.

Everyone has their own opinion on this. I personally don't believe in instawhales. For me it has to be something that is established as being a world class beer and difficult to find (ie old and or small quantity brewery release only). Other then that its just a hyped beer.

I haven't seen any around Clear Lake this week. I heard the Specs on Bay Area got some on Black Friday.

I almost went down there but I thought Smith Street would of held it all for themselves.

i personally bought two four packs from specs clear lake.

but was told no specs in galveston county would be getting any from a specs beer guy in galveston county. but he could be wrong.

HEBs around the southern parts had UPC issues and couldn't accept the boxes or something weird. SUPER LOW allotments though (think 1 case per store), with many having taken lists.

    womp womp.

Yep. They weirdly got more barleywine than regular. Fair warning though, they are the most expensive of anywhere in town. 24.99 a 4 pack.
