Rather poor typology attempt, in my opinion.

I'm more into the personality of the beer than the beer drinker. There is an easy way to deal with any of these beer types. Put a beer in their hands. Let the beer do the talking. That, my friend, is the answer.

I think those might be how "outsiders" see beer folks, but I'm not so sure about the community itself.

I agree, its more of a continous scale. I mean we've all met these quirky, funny, and wonderful beer geeks at the beginning of a beer festival, halfway through they become know-it-alls and right before they start puking all over themselves they become beer snobs!!!

If I had to pick one I would probably be in the beer gourmand category.

The Beer-Enthusiast Categorizer: Feels the need to pick out common eccentricities about beer drinkers and to give them names. Often feels enmity to one group or another. Usually tries to fill overly wordy treatises with what the categorizer believes are insightful observations, but which often are just ill informed prejudices. Loves to be center stage taking shots at the different groups analyzed, but usually is the most boring person in the room.

Fun article and not to serious. I'd say I'm a Geek. Love drinking, but love brewing and learning about it just as much. I will say I am the same way with Wine but not nearly as intense. Not to mention I have tattoos of Hops and Barley.

To me it's kind of like this:

Yes it groups people together but it's obviously just for fun. The reason it is acceptable is there it some truth to it. Is it saying EVERYONE fits into a mold? No. Acknowledging and poking fun at differences is not always a bad thing.

I'm a geek at heart but a gourmand in practice. I'm a teacher so I do often go the budget route and find myself drinking a BMC. In reality I'm a homebrewer, I seek great beer, and I do whatever I can (within economic reason) to acquire, sample, review, and enjoy the best beers out there.

looks like he forgot to read what he wrote,
first he calls himself a populaist, and then aficionado, hard to take anything he writes serioursly if he can work out what groups he is in himslef

Agreed, nobody should be pigeon-holed. That being said, where's your rebuttal?
