Haven't seen the sun here in Wiesbaden/Mainz since late October. At least that's what it feels like. If it's not clouds, it's fog.:slight_frown:

I'm enjoying a bottle of "Martha Krieger Spitzenpilsner" from Riedenburger Brauhaus, which as far as I can tell is simply their unfiltered pilsner rebranded, that beer was sold at the monopoly a few years back but lost its place, now it's back once more which I'm happy about since I remember liking it the first time around. Tastewise it is similar to the Augsburger Herrenpils, with its aromatic floral hops, but the hops are a bit softer compared with the Herrenpils and not quite as pronounced. All in all a very nice pilsner, it inhabits that range of flavor profiles which I am looking for in a German pilsner.

One of the reasons why I left. I love Germany for so many reasons, but the weather from OCT-APR made me want to slit my wrists. It was OK the first few years (6 weeks vacation) but after a while it grinds on your psyche.

I had the pleasure to meet a guy originally from Germany (Hamburg) who has been in the US for about 20 years and he volunteered to me that he would never go back because of the miserable weather.

    Cheers!

I moved there from the Pacific Northwest. Germany was like heaven by comparison.

It wasn't the snows and Siberia-esque cold of Erfurt nor the low-hanging skies of Bamberg that did me in, rather it was the winds and constant rain of Lueneburg that finally sent me packing for warm, sunny SC. Acht Grad und Regen everyday is no way to go through life (especially not in der Residenz der Langeweile as Heinrich Heine called Lueneburg). That said, it sure was beautiful this time of year (my street during Christmas)

PS - I am looking forward to one (if not more) drunken, way-over-the-top-praising review of this beer, hopefully soon.

Schlenkerla posted this pic of the recent pickup for the mailman (who, apparently, was not too happy about it). Lots of Eiche going out...

Just a couple weeks ago my view looked like this:

Now it's been like this for going on 4 straight days...

All of this fog talk is strikingly familiar, even though I'm on the other side of the alps. I suppose I do have the nice spring/early summer weather to look forward to, as well as a doppelbock or two to get me through.

Been looking like this just about every day for the past couple weeks, with varying degrees of rain.

It hasn't been much better in St. Louis lately. Although we did get out for a bike ride Sunday morning before the temp dropped 40° in a few hours.

Was just about to say: cold, gray, and drizzly here in sunny SC this whole week. I actually enjoy such weather now that it's periodic. Makes me nostalgic (but also helps to know it's not going to last for the next 4-6 months!).

How bad can Germany be this time of year? They have Weihnachtsmärkte!

Actually, a town on the other side of the river from here is promoting an authentic Deutsche Kristkindlmarkt. We'll have to go check it out. But they appear to lack the wooden shacks.

Nice. I also took a picture of it after the mailman was finished cursing and left it at the doorstep.
