So, I picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago, and had it during this past week's game.

Wow, this was a truly interesting experience.
Underneath everything there was the clear presence of just a kick ass Imperial Stout pulling everything together, but the really interesting thing was the barrel characteristics.

I let this sit for about 20 minutes before opening (I like to experience a beer across an array of temps to see what happens), so it was still moderately chilled at the beginning. Up front, decently strong character from the Bourbon barrels, but practically no presence from the rum at all.

But, lo and behold, the warmer it got, the more the rum barrels took over. This was really neat to me, as I've never really had a beer in which both sides of the aging come out seperately.

Really awesome job by Clown Shoes.

Very disappointing... If you love Clown Shoes big stouts and BA stouts, you'll probably be let down. Mouthfeel is VERY thin and the flavors are all over the place unfortunately

Id have to agree to some degree. While I enjoyed it for a double barrel stout it wasn't amazing. I found undead party crasher by itself much better. This beer did get much better as it warmed. It was great at close to 60 degrees. But that required it sitting for almost an hour.

I'd love to try this. Had Very Angry Beast last night and thought it was excellent. Looked it up on BA today and said retired. i was disappointed so i'm an extremely happy beast to see this.:stuck_out_tongue:

I was able to get my hands on a bottle of this a couple of weeks ago. The rum and bourbon didn't come through nearly as much as I would have liked. As far as an imperial stout, I would give it high marks.

I would have to agree in the sense that the barrel influence was subtle at best. A bit on the thin side as far as I'm concerned but glad I was able to try it!

Tonight I may try a sampling of blaecorn, undead, then Angry Beast to see how they compare.

Yes. I think it was the binnys in Orland Park. Or the Kenwood in Homer Glen. If I see it I'll shoot you a message.

Binnys has quite a bit of it - go on their website and / or call the stores near you. I am up north and a whole case is sitting on the shelves at the store near me... Oh and I am drinking one right now :stuck_out_tongue: Never had Very angry beast, so I can't compare, but it is pretty darn good - smokey though with the smoked malts, so if you like a bit of smoke go for it!

It's my understanding that it's sitting in GA wharehouses but the distributor wanted to get Reindeer Games out first. We should see it later this week or early next week. I'm stoked to try it!

I didn't think so, but I also didn't wait for it to warm up after taking out of the fridge. Had it a second time at a restaurant (out of bottle) and didn't think the alcohol from the barrel aging was too overwhelming.
