I'm nothing close to a "master" of infusing shit; I've done it like 5 or 6 times total. I've never done it with coffee but I think I'm going to try soon. I have been given a few tips that I'll pass on:

Breaking up beans and soaking them gives a better integrated coffee flavor than coldbrew, which can have a bit of a 'green' flavor, or even green pepper flavor, to it. I think mentioned was an amount to use, so I'll see if I can track that down. Lastly, it's a good idea to use a 'lesser' stout first, maybe Dragon's Milk, so that you can dial in what you're trying to accomplish with something that was $12/4pk instead of $26/4pk and in limited quantity. Once you're happy with how the coffee turns out, then use a BCBS.


I realized that the source of the info I was thinking of was homebrew based, not infusion based, but the principles are the same, although you're unlikely to get the green pepper from immediate use, that was based on it sitting for a while being aged on coffee

So this just happened. Got word from a buddy that there was a keg of Fou Foune on draft in Carlsile, PA of all places. So what do I do? Take my dinner break, drive 25 minutes to drink it of course!



Not proper glassware but I'm pretty sure I'd drink Fou out of a jock strap.

 

Clean jockstrap right? You wouldn't want any off putting smells distracting your palate. That's great use of your dinner break. Time management at its best.

I did the same tasting a couple of months back. Grapefruit was my fav. For me, I could only drink one of the habanero and it took a while to get it down.

 

Completely agree with you. I like peppers in my beer but I thought the habanero did not go as well as it could have. Too forthcoming.
