Moral: Don't trade high end super rare beer with someone who communicates like a 13YO! His profile says "retiree" - from what, junior high?

Ding ding ding. That's gotta be it. Makes perfect sense for why the wax is minimal but the color match is pretty great.

Yea I think this is right. Gotta say the idea of reusing the wax off a bottle never occurred to me. Then again, I'm not a douche with nothing better to do than think of ways to screw people in beer trades

While it really sucks what happened. Wish I would have thought of reusing the wax before. I have been meaning to wax some homebrew.

And while it is not Assassin, I would be willing to offer up a bottle of Indeed Rum King to one of the guys that got screwed here.

No, the bottle we opened was legit. Not saying it was terrible, just wasn't overly impressed with this years Assassin.

Agreed, really shitty that people would do this.

So...to recap...@Leazk wanted us to believe TWO guys sent HIM refilled/recapped bottles that he took from one box and put in another box(seemingly w/ his eyes closed)? He even chose to reel in @CHSASVbeer, who has an immaculate rep, as one of those guys?

@Blitzy Hall of Shame nominee fo sho..

Just a thought, it seems pretty obvious OP's beer was a fake, but it should be possible measure the final gravity of the beer in any bottle that appears to be a fake. I'm sure any brewer would give you their FG value for a beer they make or just raw ABV might be enough to close the case.

Wow you are the reason I stay on this website. And I'm with @CHSASVbeer, this is completely unnecessary but I will also absolutely be reciprocating. There's always great people to make up for the terrible ones! Cheers @RayOhioFelton!

I shudder to think what happened to that bottle, how many times its been traded over for who knows what quality/quantity of rare beer each time. It's mind-boggling.

I wish I knew how to add a pic so I could post pictures of my "DB Cake" and get some opinions. This beer was supposed to be used to celebrate the birth of my buddies first baby boy and his very recent arrival at home. I'm not worried about money or what I gave away (although it sucks immensely), but the reason why I sought this DB cake is what bothers me. This guy is a clown and I can't believe he can live with himself doing shit like this. The effort people go through to get these beers (see @CHSASVbeer and his probable 3 AM wake up call). Who knows what sacrifices were made. Bah, this infuriates me.

I hope @tgchief and @TgBC read this thread and know of this guy. It would be nice if one of the traders could message them with the guys real name, so they could put him on a Blacklist at the taproom (assuming that is where he got his bottles). This is extremely shady and not only that, the person who consumes these fake bottles will have a product that does not compare at all to the real deal and could leave bad feedback and reviews, which is not good for TG and the brand they are building with Assassin.

It appears he had a KBBS as trade bait as well. Sincerely hope that whoever got that and any other Assassin's from this guy actually received the correct beer.
